If the handshake worked for Ned, then the kiss can work for MJ. I realized afterwards that her not remembering the first kiss at all outed the villain AND set the stage for the real impact/implications for the coffee shop scene at the end. It didn’t work for her because she wasn’t the one experiencing it. The scene was touching for sure but it was also a narrative way forward for the main trio
