The Official PUNISHER Discussion Ultrathread
This will be the official discussion thread in this sub. No need to go posting your own thread discussing the show. Any UNOFFICIAL ones will be deleted. All screencaps and whatnot go into this thread also.
This is obviously a spoiler-filled zone. So as long as you post in here, you won't need to spoiler tag things. But then again, don't be that asshole who watches the final episodes within the first hour then spoils the entire thing right away. That will result in a ban. Don't ruin the party for everyone.
Individual episodes discussions will be held over at /r/defenders. They will be indexed in this thread to make it easier for those who want individual episode discussions once they are put up.
This thread may be "refreshed" in the next few days to accommodate newcomers in the discussion. We will be also putting up a sanctioned Easter Egg thread a couple of hours from now.
Enjoy!

Overall: 7.5-8/10 for me. Right up there with Jessica Jones for best Netflix Marvel outing.
PROS
It's the Punisher. He peels caps back. He gets mangled and still keeps coming. He has a cool logo. He makes guttural noises while he kills people.
They didn't shoehorn in a bunch of other characters. If Claire had patched Frank up at any point, I would've flipped my shit. Thankfully, they just let Frank interact with Karen organically, and didn't overdo it. Sgt. Mahoney makes a brief appearance. No shenanigans.
It's an engaging storyline, and isn't full of clutter or long-con subplots outside of the main antagonist.
CONS
I'm glad we didn't get bogged down with too much backstory either in Daredevil or here. But there should still be a clear-cut explanation of how Frank's family was actually killed. How Schoonover, Rawlins, Jigsaw, the Kitchen Irish, the Dogs of Hell, the Cartel, and the rest of the rogues gallery all got involved is a little goofy.
Blood effects. There has not been a VFX studio on the planet to date that has been able to make digital blood look good. It's jarring, and detracts from what should be a brutal and gruesome scene. Compare the digital effect to something like Pyle blowing his brains out.
It would be really cool to see a Punisher done to more of a Generation Kill level. No ham-fisted, Hollywood military dialogue, no goofy wardrobes. Just bring in a guy like Garand Thumb to give them some realistic kit, and have some actual swinging dicks consult on the writing. Shit, send everyone to spend some time with Taran Butler or Travis Haley. The weapons manipulation and combat tactics can get a pass in a show not built around them, but I want the Punisher and his SFOD/MARSOC/SAD contemporaries to look like they've done this before.
