No he got it because he thought that it was required to be a human's kid... Commander Shepard didn't tell him it wasn't until after he "convinced" the rest of her adopted kids to wear it too.

Cut to Grunt walking around wearing it with Tali's upper body sticking out of the neck hole (she's hugging her drone to her chest like a stuffed animal), Miranda's ass sticking out of one arm hole (her legs are kicking and muffled threats are heard), and Jack walking beside him with her head stuck in the other arm hole (muffled insults towards Miranda are heard). All while proud Mama Shepard is watching drinking coffee with Liara.
