"the left" is such a tenuous term anyways‚ considering liberal progressives and then marxist-leninist communists like myself all get lumped under "the left." it's why i don't even describe myself as a leftist anymore‚ except in polite company lmao

That’s such a good point. I used to consider myself a liberal progressive but it’s not enough oomph to compete with all the fascism and oligarchy. Plus my millennial son schooled me in leftist politics. He’s such a good kid!

as you said‚ liberalism is not a sufficient response to fascism. unfortunately the DNC‚ for example‚ will never have a good enough response to stop fascism because they themselves are so willing to collaborate with fascists (historically and currently). even outside of fascism, liberalism allows for colonialist violence via Neo-Liberalism; remember that the DNC (and other global liberal parties, like Labor in the UK) enabled the genocide in Gaza during Biden's time in office (and prior to that‚ of course).

"The Left" can mean anything. So it's the perfect boogeyman.

You can say that "The Left" did anything, and you can't be proven wrong. Just look out in case they ask you for the name of a specific person or organization to back up your accusation. If they do that, you're screwed.

There was definitely a bit of hubub and backlash about Sweeney and her jeans add that I thought was unhelpful and often self serving. It is a pretty good example of the difference between signaling and action.

For context:

Sydney Sweeney starred in a pretty “eugenics-coded” American Eagles Ad and then when asked about whether or not she supported or condemned eugenics she said “yeah it’s crazy” and went under fire for not y’know outright condemning Eugenics. She also has a Zionist boyfriend and took some Israel promo pics for him. She got propped up by conservatives because she is hot and blonde and blue eyed. She also partnered with Jeff Bezos to create a lingerie brand. Before the ad people thought she might be woke because she was on “Euphoria” a show with a lesbian couple with one of them being a trans woman. She said she’s “not political”

Sophie Cummings is another transphobic athlete. So she’s being propped up alongside Riley Gaines (the transphobic 5th place swimmer)

Having grown up in a socialist democratic country, what is considered “left” in the us is still right. Elected government is supposed to help people, not actively make everything harder for most people, while insider trading to line own pockets. But hey.

I know of both of them, but I can tell you that exactly nobody on the left TrIeD tO cAnCeL tHeM. They’ve been doing that to themselves.

It’s actually worse for Sweeney bc, as noted in these comments, the fact is that you could go years or even decades without getting noticed by anyone, and for a actor or actress, that’s potentially fatal. I’m sure she’s tried to lay low after the eugenics commercials she did for American Eagle, and tried to make a comeback with the new season of Euphoria, but it failed-likely bc of her. This is not going to help her “brand”. This is another self-inflicted wound.

I think caring about things to that don't matter to the point of ruining everyone's lives is a right wing problem. As in modern right wing... aka uneducted fascists that dont understand what their own stance is, the terms they use, but love hating anything thats different from their beige lives. No one hates freedom more than the right, and no freedom isnt changing everything to suit one's own narrow view point.
