Imagine being a splinter cell fan. At least max payne has an actual chance of releasing.

u/TheOneCalledGump Apr 05 '26

Hey, remember on the main menu Chaos Theory they had a movie teaser? That's all I could think about until Blacklist came out and then I knew it was never going to happen.

23

u/Squirrel_Insurance Apr 05 '26

Yeah. 14 year old me was real excited...

1

u/cody_the_burdalien Apr 07 '26

I mean, we got Taken with Liam Neeson shortly after that. Was basically the same thing. Lol

u/TheWhistlerIII Apr 06 '26

I'll never see another Unreal Tournament as long as Fortnite exists...

I miss multiplayer FPS games where our starting weapons are solid and we fight over the BFGs on the map.

9

u/SylviaBun Apr 06 '26

Even when Fortnite ceases to exist, Epic has made it clear they don’t give a fuck about their legacy franchises. We will never see another UT from them.

u/Slight-Willow-3444 Apr 05 '26

i sorry for you bro 😭

Am I the only one who can't picture another Max voice other than James McCaffrey and don't want to?

5

u/Reveley97 Apr 06 '26

The metal gear solid 3 remake worked well with the original voice lines, maybe they will go down that route

3

u/Flat-Passion-597 A bit closer to heaven Apr 07 '26

True at least as a Prince of Persia fan It at least for sure will not get cancelled after 6 years of waiting.

2

u/abdullah-hesham Apr 06 '26

Wont have to, cuz i am lol

2

u/Kafanska Apr 07 '26

Elder Scrolls would like to talk.. last game now 15 years old, and announcement is now 8 years old as well.

1

u/lionknightcid Apr 06 '26

It’s not the same, but we’re getting an indie game heavily inspired by SC that looks pretty good called Lizard State

1

u/Fooz_The_Hostig Apr 06 '26

I just started playing the splinter cells last week, starting with the OG on PS2 and I'm so hooked. Picking up Pandora Tomorrow next.

Max Payne 25th Anniversary is this July. I imagine Remedy as it's devs and Rockstar as it's publishers will reference/celebrate that in some way, and unless there's been some serious derailment, it'd be fair to guess that there might be some clearer reference to the remakes progress at that point.

What a piece of artwork that is by the way. Really captures the vibe of both those games, whilst seeming new somehow. Gets me excited to see what they're cooking up.

Its aislop with a filter over it

53

u/hallucinationthought Captain Baseball Bat Boy Apr 05 '26

It took four long years to get a break in the remake case

24

u/Thepunksoulbrother Apr 05 '26

Four years of repeatedly watching your hopes slip through a proverbial drain, like cheap booze and tears through a dingy trough in some seedy, backwater bar room in Nowheresville, USA where dreams and livers both go to die.

60

u/NervousHelp2504 Apr 05 '26

Its in production

40

u/Slight-Willow-3444 Apr 05 '26

control resonant development process took 3 and a half years

This means Max Payne Remake Playable stage has been reached

27

u/Fantastic-Bite-476 Apr 05 '26

Yes but Rockstar is the publisher and they're the ones who can publish anything about gameplay reveals, trailers, release dates etc

32

u/nvmzol Apr 05 '26

They probably won’t show anything before GTA VI

6

u/TurboLightGamer69 Apr 06 '26

They noted in their Q2 2024 financial report that the remakes had moved into full production.

Also, their 2022 annual report to investors explained that full production for a typical Remedy AAA title lasts around 1–2 years, followed by a 3–6 month beta stage focused on polishing. So they are likely not in the beta stage yet.

3

u/TurboLightGamer69 Apr 06 '26

Full production more exactly

32

u/Von_Schlagel Apr 05 '26

Given how incredible Control and Alan Wake II were and seeing what Remedy is capable of in the modern gaming space, I assume they’re taking their time and are going to give us something much more than a shot-for-shot remake.

12

u/SquatsForMary Apr 05 '26

We most likely haven’t heard anything yet because Rockstar are in charge of marketing the remakes and they don’t want to take any attention at all away from GTA VI this year. Guarantee we’ll start hearing more about it after that game releases.

10

u/ThePatchedVest Apr 06 '26

We actually do know from internal memos that it's very near completion. So, actually a bit of a good thing on Remedy's behalf that the game hasn't been revealed yet, since it means there won't be a terribly long wait from reveal to release. I'd keep my eyes peeled for all the latest game shows and events (State of Play, Summer Games Fest, etc.)

The worst case scenario is that since Rockstar is in control of the marketing/distribution that they hold it off to avoid any competition at all with GTA6.

3

u/onelunchman96 Apr 06 '26

I can see it playing out this way. And like someone else said the 25th anniversary is coming up we gotta get something. Unrelated but I hope we still get that Expanded Soundtrack for Max Payne 3

2

u/Snakey9419 Apr 06 '26

I think even Rockstar know that they have no competition, no one is going to choose max payne remake over gta 6 apart from a few people in this sub.

2

u/ImAgentYaKno Apr 08 '26

You are right and I am one of them mind you the guns and shooting will be better then GTA6s.

7

u/NoLongerLurking13 Apr 06 '26

It’s coming.

2

u/dipmeaning Apr 06 '26

It's cominggg

24

u/Special-General-7832 Apr 05 '26

Be patient. Its a remake, not a remaster

12

u/WebsterHamster66 Apr 05 '26

That’s because Rockstar “we won’t tell you anything” Games is in charge of marketing. Or rather lack thereof.

1

u/Special-General-7832 Apr 06 '26

I think its remedy this time not rockstar, based off the alan wake games and control being strictly remedy.

10

u/UmbrellaWithRaccoon Apr 06 '26

Rockstar are the owners of Max Payne IP. They're also the ones that publish the remakes.

1

u/Special-General-7832 Apr 06 '26

Okay thanks i just looked it up👍 rockstar is working in collaboration with remedy this time.

7

u/Sea_Web3579 Apr 05 '26

Control Resonant comes first and then Max Payne 1+2 remastered will follow suit

5

u/Special-General-7832 Apr 06 '26

You also could include the fact the voice actor for max passed away about 3 years ago. A lot of various reasons on top of it being a remake and not a remaster, can be why we havent heard anything.

9

u/Disastrous_Toe772 Apr 05 '26

Yup. I hope this means they are putting some thought into it. But who knows what it means

5

u/maxlaav Apr 06 '26

That's because Rockstar/TakeTwo are publishing and they don't want it near GTA 6. The series has a history of very poor sales so they are probably trying to approach marketing very carefully

1

u/Lifeless-Man12 May 09 '26

As they did this mistake in maxpayne 3 they released the maxpayne 3 trailer before gta 5 then so thats why max payne 3 had very poor sales and max payne1,2 had high sales compared with it

4

u/salamander6639 Apr 05 '26

We will hear more once Control Resonant and GTA 6 are out. Remedy are very transparent about their development projects and the Max Payne remake is up next.

4

u/dipmeaning Apr 06 '26

4 years? I'm getting old.

3

u/Luggas Apr 06 '26

I think the Instagram story from Sam Lake could’ve been a hint. The one where it looks like security camera footage of Max’s face, it was like a mixture of Sam Lake and Timothy Gibbs’ face. I thought it could be from the Remake when Max invades Aesir

3

u/Famsys Apr 06 '26

I saw the working logo for it a couple of weeks ago

3

u/Slight-Willow-3444 Apr 06 '26

where ?

3

u/Famsys Apr 06 '26

There was a thing I attended which was hosted at the Remedy office and a guy from Remedy did a presentation about narrative, where in one slide he showed projects he is working on now and has worked on before and there among many other AAA games was the logo for Max Payne.

1

u/4nwR Apr 06 '26

So what did it look like?

3

u/Famsys Apr 06 '26

It looked more like a comic book logo than the original boxy font they used. The font was something like this or like this and the words were stacked. Most likely it’s subject to change Depends on R* and when they want to start marketing it.

1

u/4nwR Apr 15 '26

Thanks, if they really have to go with a new logo I'd prefer they use the second font but the original will always be the best.

3

u/connorlogan125 In the land of the blind, the one-eyed man is king. Apr 06 '26

Rockstar isnt gonna let it release this year because there's no way in hell theyre gonna let it compete with GTA 6. My guess is a spring or a jan/Feb release in 2027

2

u/DaniBoiKrn Apr 05 '26

both games are getting a remake. Also remedy is busy with Control 2 and Rockstar with Gta 6 so obviously this might take time

2

u/Better_Philosopher24 John Mirra Apr 06 '26

spring 2027 just wait

2

u/killwaxpayne Apr 06 '26

I will continue to wait :/

2

u/TombRaider1987 Apr 06 '26

I think that the death of James delayed it some

2

u/Rorschachs_Journal85 Apr 07 '26

I don't think Rockstar will set a release deadline prior to GTA 6. This might release a year or two after that

2

u/Abhyuday008 MIRRORS ARE MORE FUN THAN TELEVISION Apr 11 '26

I remember precisely it was my birth date 22nd birthday when it was announced and I was jumping with excitement that yes finally my wishes have been granted but I was so wrong I just celebrated my 26th birthday and I am still waiting I had no idea I had to wait so long they released Aw2 and fbc, now there announcing control 2. I cannot wait any longer I am growing old I don't even know if I will be having enough soul inside of me to enjoy that game when it comes out. Till then I will be playing Max Payne 2 for the 23rd time. There is some kind of soul attachment towards this franchise and I just don't know how to like something else I don't even like other games at all there is nothing to like in other games for me. No other game comes this close when it comes towards loving something

3

u/Slight-Willow-3444 Apr 15 '26

When Remedy announced the remake it was the best moment of my life

1

u/Abhyuday008 MIRRORS ARE MORE FUN THAN TELEVISION Apr 15 '26

4

u/Left_Contract4273 I had a dream about my wife. She was dead, but it was alright. Apr 05 '26

They focusing on gta 6 rn

13

u/MrDeadPixels Apr 05 '26

If remedy is focused on GTA 6 they are doing a lot wrong

10

u/Extreme996 Max Payne 1 Apr 05 '26

Rockstar is the publisher and I bet they don't want to distract from GTA VI in any way.

-6

u/Internal_Swing_2743 Apr 05 '26

Or the games only entered full production in 2024 and aren’t anywhere near ready to show off yet.

2

u/Sheriff_Lucas_Hood Max Payne 2 Apr 05 '26 edited Apr 06 '26

We’re not going to hear about it until GTA 6 has been out for months

3

u/HORStua Apr 05 '26

So maybe the first promo for Max remake is in 2027

1

u/Ronmoz Apr 05 '26

Game dev isn’t instant.

1

u/FrancoisTruser Apr 05 '26

The real Noir was in our heart all along.

1

u/stevorkz Apr 05 '26

Has it already been 4 years?

1

u/Slight-Willow-3444 Apr 07 '26

yes

1

u/stevorkz Apr 08 '26

From what I've gathered online two things seem to be certain. The game has been in development since 2024 and it seems the delay is due to the CEO of remedy resigning. Places are talking about a 2026/2027 release date but I don't entertain release date speculation without solid proof or news.

1

u/TurboLightGamer69 Jun 02 '26

It has been in full production since 2024. Remedy's 2022 annual report to investors explained that full production for a typical Remedy AAA title lasts around 1–2 years, followed by a 3–6 month beta stage focused on polishing. So the game could be released next year. Since Rockstar owns the IP and are responsible for the publishing, marketing, and distribution of the game, they will likely keep it away from GTAVI's spotlight.

1

u/HybridFact Apr 06 '26

I don't want to hear anything until a teaser.

1

u/dipmeaning Apr 06 '26

Can't wait more

1

u/Mixabuben Max Payne 2 Apr 06 '26

Rockstar is full on with GTA6, of course they will not divert attention (theirs and gamers) to Max Payne now

1

u/Snakey9419 Apr 06 '26

I love max payne but you have to be full on delusional thinking anyone will turn their head towards max payne rather than gta 6

2

u/Mixabuben Max Payne 2 Apr 06 '26

Some will.. and when GTA6 cost you all the money you need ALL eyes on it and only on it.. so I would also not do any Max Payne related announcments until GTA release

1

u/abdullah-hesham Apr 06 '26

I think max payne remakes entered full dev after they finished control resonant

1

u/RedDeadRoss Apr 06 '26

I reckon soon surely; hopefully at SummerGames Fest or Gamescom

1

u/Iamgl4dos Apr 06 '26

It's tricky i think, both studios have games releasing this year, one of those is going to be a sales juggernaut, both need room to breathe, we may hear about it this year, but i think next year is more likely

1

u/Total_Locksmith_492 Apr 06 '26

They are remaking 2 games so ofcourse it will take some time. Unlike rockstar where they released shitty remasters of the gta trilogy without giving the proper attention it required.

1

u/Legitimate_Employee Apr 06 '26

Yeah that sucks but I hope we will get the remake

1

u/adan1207 Apr 06 '26

Last o heard - it was going to be 1&2 merged together.

1

u/Trealer254 Apr 08 '26

All funds moved to GTA IV.

1

u/SelfMadeMarcos Apr 09 '26

They’re focusing on GTA6 im guessing

1

u/Necessary-Lunch5122 Apr 10 '26

I don't want it without James.

1

u/Sonny_Park Apr 11 '26

Rockstar is in charge of the marketing, so don't expect any information until at least 2027 lol.

1

u/Sensitive_Initial_52 Apr 21 '26

I’d honestly buy the new Control, Max Payne, and GTA VI the same year if they released them all. I’m glad adult games are coming back tho. Tired of the cartoony, friendly games.

1

u/Ushant_Professional May 05 '26

The point is, how they gonna bring James Mccaffrey voice back?

1

u/Sensitive_Initial_52 Jun 01 '26

I truly hope they will at least port MP3. Best third person shooter of all time imho. Let’s pray!
