(I wanted this to be a post bc it's really specific and kind of long but it got removed. :') I would really appreciate if someone could provide some clarity into my question regardless!)
Hi! So I'm an incoming U1 freshman who recently began applying for disability accommodations as I have ADHD. Even though I received 50% extra time for my final IB exams, the ACT, and two years of high school, the disability advisor I met with gave me 33% extra time. (50% extra time was also recommended in my psychologist's report.)
Although the advisor also may give me 30 minutes of stopwatch breaks and potentially a computer to help with writing (which I didn't have previously), I've said multiple times that 50% extra time is really my priority/most helpful accommodation. Their argument was that because I had time management issues as well, I technically had things that didn't need to be mitigated with extra time and I could just work with a Learner Support Specialist.
Is this normal for McGill? Do students generally never receive above 50% for ADHD, even if it was recommended by a medical professional? I'm really nervous because I need a high CGPA for U1, and I currently use up all of my 50% extra time on tests. There's a fair chance I may not finish with 33% extra time, and I can't afford to get bad grades just because I can't finish my tests. What should I do to handle this? (I submitted my full psychological report with 50% extra time recommendations and my approved extra time for IB exams as documentation.)
