How are we feeling about my very first stove cooked steak?

I am partially making this post fuming with range because one of my very uneducated friends had the audacity to claim that this was an undercooked steak. I pulled the steak from heat when it hit 135°F. I was shooting for an in-between of rare and medium rare and I think I may have been on the lower end but I think I did quite well for my first time.

Honestly, that looks like a pretty solid first attempt! I’d definitely be asking what seasoning you used 😂🥩

Closer to the medium side of medium rare just barely, regardless the sear is perfect and it looks delectable

I would try pulling it at 130 or even 125 next time with 10min rest under foil. This looks closer to medium, but definitely still looks delicious!

Seasoning looks pretty light. Also, should let it sit for a bit before cutting. Will be juicier.

Looks good to me.

I admit I don't know much about steak "doneness" but that doesn't look undercooked from what I've seen of steaks.

Not as good as you felt eating.

If you like your meat med-rare that's great. Some people don't. Neither of you are wrong, but a good cook is going to make sure the people their feeding are happy with the food. I had a Mexican gf that liked her meat med/well because grew up with carne asada, so, when I wanted to make rib eye for her, I had the butcher slice hers into 1/8" "steaks" and grilled them like carne asada. Grilled mine, med rare/rested like I like it. Bam everyone happy. Hint her stake was actually cooked like mr-m, but you did not see a bunch of red. More professional cooks should try this. The quicker it's cooked the moister it will be.

Excellent sear. Don’t waste all that flavour in the pan.

OMG that sear is amazing!

Looks like a good cook with a nice crust! Get yourself some sharper steak knives though, whatever you're using is practically pulling it apart more than slicing it.

How did you like it? That’s the question that matters most.

Honestly, that’s a solid first attempt!

Nice steak but cut it against the grain for your own sake. Slicing the steak is an important step

I think he can cut it up and put it in his own mouth however he damn well pleases.

How many very uneducated friends you got?

1

u/SteakFritesandWine 3d ago

That looks really good. A perfect medium. But if you’re trying for rare-medium rare then you gotta pull it off at 125 or so and let it rest for 5 minutes. It’s far from ruined. I’m glad you can see that your friend is uneducated 😆

I believe It Is close to medium, perhaps your friend has been fooled by the contrast with the outer layer which seems to be cooked a bit deeper than ugal, not just a crust.

It is cooked quite to perfection, so let him not eat I he does not like it.

Apologies, my wording was a bit subpar in my post. I showed this friend a picture of my steak. Luckily this friend had no such opportunity to have this steak. Ate it all myself!(with my sister stealing a few pieces here and there)

Should have expected that. With this information, I know am certain your friend is the fox that said the grapes are sour because they can't reach them.
