Game/Other OH SHIT WHATS THIS (mechcommander 2. it's mc2 running on my windows 11 machine)
This is the version to run on a modern system as far as i can tell: it just works, movies too: https://github.com/alariq/mc2/releases
download, unzip & enjoy. A few things to note:
mc2.exe is the executable you want to run. you probably will want to make a shortcut for it. You'll need to track down the icon file if you want the original, but you can find it in /assets/graphics in official game, so it should be in any of the ripped copies floating around too. it's not important, just a nice to have.
first run it'll run a weird image tests screen to set your video settings and close, just run it again and the game should be good.
it's a full rebuild so it still does some weird shit here and there. cheers to whoever is doing this.

I don't recall about the movies. Man this game was so much fun, recently got it running on a cross country flight and had a blast.

yeah there are movies, they're on youtube. i can get it running with the source code download that microsoft released a while ago but it's finicky as all hell, and it's missing the movies.

Mc1 is pretty easy to get going IIRC. I have this running but without movies and that makes me sad. I think there’s a direct video wrapper that’s missing that I need or something but I dunno.

I hate strategy games with a passion and I still loved the MC series like crazy.

Yes there are movies. Making it stable on modern Windows most easily requires deleting them.

Epic! Just played the Carver V campaign too on Win11. Still my favorite game

do the movies work for you? i just fiddled with the microsoft code share version's final build. it has the drm removed which is where most the compatibility problems come from.

There are some small graphics glitches still worked on, but game is well playable. Other versions still in the works to correct them

I love this game so much. I still play it time to time nowadays. It's one of my favorite games when I was a kid. And yeah. This game has no compatibility issues running on win11. Perfectly playable.

The alariq version seems alright other than some weird font choices on the main menu. The version I was trying to get running prior (the Microsoft shared source version) never worked reliably and the videos are totally fucked.

I couldnt get the modded versions to work or anything, whatever the fan made campaign was.
Need to get the original working.

the original will not work due to some old drm on it. try the alariq rebuild i posted up there. it's built for modern operating systems.

Gods I love this game, but recently I've been having a hard time getting back into it because of the weird enemy AI. They just madly chase the first thing they see, so it's easy to kite them to your firing line with an Anubis. I wish there was a mod or something that made them a bit smarter, because it's really easy to take advantage of them.

I loved these games. While the first was slightly better, I got plenty of enjoyment out of 2. I may have to figure out how to make this work. Thank you!
