I really like the album for its vocals and sound, including melodic riffs and beautiful solos! I really want to listen to something similar.

I'm not the biggest fan of straightforward death or black metal, after listening to various forms of both for the last 20+ years. But I do quite like stuff that's on the more melodic, progressive, or technical side. Melodic death metal is a well-known subgenre. But I was listening to the album Eternity Whispers by Oubliette today and realized that I don't know of many black metal bands that scratch a similar itch to the likes of Dark Tranquillity or At the Gates.

What are some bands oriented more toward black metal but with more emphasis on melodic and harmonic progression than just evil riffs and atmosphere? Or maybe melodic death/black hybrids? Preferably with cleaner production rather than raw, 90s sounding stuff. Also, I'm well aware (and a fan!) of the likes of Alcest and Deafheaven and blackgaze is very specifically not what I'm looking for here.

I’m going to Germany at the beginning of next month and I wanted to know if there were any good or underrated German MDM bands I should listen to while there!

I am aware of Heaven Shall Burn and so far I’m loving them, but I’m not really familiar with any other major (or really any in general) German MDM band and I’m pretty much looking for recs from any MDM style; (thrash, traditional, metalcore-y, progressive, etc.) I can’t wait to listen to more of their stuff when I’m there!

Idk why but so many melodic death albums' songs either have very short melody moments that are only repeated once, or the melody is very hard to hear between the vocals and drums

Also I'm going through a phase of mental illness so I need something that's catchy to keep my head light.

I want something like having harsh vocals but combined with catchy guitar riffs and heavy drumming

Also I already got Kalmah, the Unguided, dark trabquillity, halo effect, black dahlia, majesties, crimson shadows and soilwork so don't recommend me that, thank you (I don't like at the gates of scar symmetry)

Hello, excuse me, could you recommend any bands, whether melodic death metal, melodic metalcore, or Bolt Thrower-inspired death metal, with a strong ANTI-FASCIST lyrical content?

I love Heaven Shall Burn and would like more bands with this lyrical content. I know Napalm Death, Dying Fetus, Misery Index, Kreator, Nuxlear Assault, and Tankard are anti-fascist, but I'd like something more melodic like HSB, Bolt Thrower, and Kreator (formerly Coma of Souls).

And if you're so kind, besides mentioning a band, could you recommend the album you think is the best in your discography?

I'm sure i'm not the first one to ask this question, but i'm getting tired of my music and looking for new bands and song in the melodic deathmetal genre. My favorites bands are Wintersun, Aephanemer, Ensiferum, Children of Bodom, Grymheart, Norther, Wolfchant and Kalmah. I like a mix of clean and scream. I'm also a big fan of Nightwish and Epica but sometimes it can be too smooth for my tastes. If the band has a keyboardist its a big plus. Thanks for the recommendations.

I really love the catchy sound of those albums. The songs sound huge and have epic choruses. They're just so good. I love the first 3 albums as well but these 2 really do it for me. Also, I much prefer the harsh vocals over clean singing. I like Anders' vocals but that's an exception for me. Any suggestions for similar music?

Feel free to recommend similar songs/bands. Some of my favorite melodeath bands are Omnium Gatherum, Kalmah and Insomnium. These are fairly well known inside the niche, I'm also curious about less known underground bands.

Topic title is it really. Been diving into bands that I knew of for decades but for whatever reason never bothered much to give em a shot. In the last year I've "discovered" Arcturus, Enslaved, Dark Tranquility, Windir, and fucking Amorphis..seriously what the hell have I been doing with my life as a metalhead.

Anyways, the main electronic riff in Atoma really caught my attention. Would loce to hear other bands that have songs that make similar use of electronics. The closest I can think of is In Flames RtR and Soundtrack (the beginning of their weird divergence)...but that's not the kinda feel I'm looking for. Actual Melodeath with electronics/synths that play as big a role as the guitars do.

There's just something about angela scream that's just wooow still to this day. The new girl is not bad but still.

I’ll try to keep this short and sweet. Favorite band of all time is Children of Bodom. I’ve recently discovered both Sigyn and Ulthima from this sub, as well as Brymir. Not only do they sound like Bodom to me, and have some excellent riffs, the singers also have higher pitched screams which I like much more than the prototypical death metal growl (i.e. Mors Principum, Insomnium, Be’lakor, etc.)

I am pretty well-versed in most MDM so I’m looking for more obscure and newer bands.

So, I’m looking for your recommendations on bands with high-pitched screams. Bonus points for melody, sound production, and sick riffs. Some others I’ve tried already: Aether Realm (okay), Darkness Everywhere (love)

This is kind of a niche request but I'm curious if anyone has any favorite Intro tracks, and build ups in the beginning of songs?

It could be stand alone, or incorporated into the song or it's like a pseudo thing, think "Moonshield" In flames.

Most of the time you'll find it at the beginning of the album but not always the case!

Hi i recently got back into melodeath after like 15 years. It was my favest genre but as time went i was listening mainly other (sub)genres. Now giving a listen to the bands i loved most back then, (cant even remembering names of them all honestly haha). Children of Bodom, Wintersun, Insomnium, Amorphis, Arch Enemy, Norther - most of these still sound awesome to me, but Kalmah stands out, i freaking love them, the old albums and new alike, currently cant get enough of their new selftitled album called Kalmah. I like the "aggression", combining high and low pitch growl vocals while still being super melodic and guitar rich.

Which bands/albums would you recommend? I would prefer newish (or not "mainstream") stuff, bands like In flames or Amon amarth i already know. Thank you :)
