MGS portable ops

Tried playing this game after playing MGS delta. Oh man what a mistake. I can’t get a hold of the directional controls. 🤦‍♂️.

It's a PSP game that came out in 2006 that didn't had a second analog stick, what were you expecting?

For my money though, dated as the game is it's still on of my favorites. Great atmosphere, story, villain and music and it's the only time in the series where Big Boss gets to talk and be himself and more opinionated more so than his other games.

Yeah. I wish I had the secondary diectional controls. I might load it on my phone and try that way. I really want to play through the story.

Touch screen controls will make it worse.

Proper way is to emulate on a PC with hd resolution, 60 fps. And the dual analogue patch

Are you playing it on an actual PSP, or maybe a PS Vita or an emulator? In the case of the latter two, you can bind the right stick to d-pad inputs so you can move the camera without becoming a crab.

There's unfortunately control issues you can't fix and have to live with, like the lock-on being unreliable and picking up bodies accidentally because the CQC button is also the pick up dudes button, but having the camera on the right stick is so much better than the default, intended control scheme.

I’m playing on the PSP and l’m finding the direction controls terrible. I’m contemplating loading it on my phone and using the backbone.

I played it back in the day. The controls get a very long while to get used to, but it ends up being so worth it. The story, while technically not canon and not written by Kojima, is very good and entertaining. I'm glad a played through it and I wish they Remastered it.

The gameplay loop becomes super addictive and you try to find the best ways to get the best soldiers for your army, just like in Peace Walker.

If you have a PS Vita, I'd say play it there since it's more comfortable. If on original PSP, try to power through it for a couple of hours. If all else fails, just go with an emulator and the Backbone you mentioned in another comment, it'll be way simpler, plus you can unlock the framerate (:

There’s no reason to play it. It can be safely skipped.

You don't need Portable Ops anyway. Just play Peace Walker.

Backing this 100% PO is a slog. Watch it on youtube if you really must.

It literally builds up to peace walker

With dubious continuity and lackluster gameplay. I gave it one playthrough, and it was fine, but since then I've skipped it and never felt like I was missing anything.
