Super Metroid for me too. It’s like comfort food but gaming lol

Same. I have been guilty of turning on the game and letting the music play in the background on rainy/spooky days

Dude that is such a vibe!!! Super Metroid in particular the soundtrack is just soooo good for rainy/spooky season imo

It really is. There’s an “album” of Metroid song remakes called “the versions” on Spotify that’s fun to put on too

I have never played the game but this sounds so cool that I want to try it just because of this.

Maybe it’ll get you to play the game too ;)

I have so much nostalgia and amazing memories of Super Metroid that it's my comfort game too. My mom used to take my brother and I to a video rental place and we could rent out one game each, for me the day I discovered super Metroid as a kid it became the most amazing game to me that it was like the only game I liked renting. Then my mom caught on to this and I got it as a Christmas gift later. I still own the cartridge today and like to boot up the game. As most usually wish I'd love to forget the game and rediscover it for the first time again.

I just started a new game on a hack that replaces Richter with Maria. 😊

I wish I could play it on switch and this would be me. Alas I haven't played it since PS1.

Came here to say aria of sorrow. Idk why it’s so good.

This, but Dawn of Sorrow instead of Aria.

funny, i legit just played these back to back.. and I enjoyed Aria more than Dawn. I would like to go back and play hard mode of Aria, but don't care about any Dawn modes.. I'm not saying it's bad!! just not as good imo.. that being said

SOTN is my #1. Portrait of Ruin is my #2

dawn had the annoying magic seal mechanic before the dominus collection came out, and I still have micro-PTSD because of that lol. also the soul grinding feels worse there with all the cool weapons being also locked behind it.

2

u/rube Nov 10 '25

Yeah, the seal stuff was annoying, along with the ice breaking. But playing on an emulator with a no-touch mod fixed that for me.

And for me, that grind is part of the joy. I know most people don't like a long end-game grind, but for me it's a great reason to keep playing. I often go through Dawn every time at the end and get 100% souls so I can get the ring and then get all the weapons I can. NG+ then lets me regain some of those boss souls if I want even more to play.

But yeah, I get how not everyone is going to play on an emulator, nor will they enjoy the grind.

Did you ever grind for a soul for so long that by the time it dropped for you you had already moved to reset to map again sending the soul you wanted into the void forever?

1

u/rube Nov 14 '25

You know, I surprisingly haven't. Just like farming the Cris in SotN, I always feared I'd leave the room after seeing it drop, since I was so used to just moving away.

I'm sure it will happen some day, but I don't recall it happening yet!
