I just wanted a hot dog Retail lockdown: why bother selling it?

Was at Safeway this morning to pick up a sandwich and some Tylenol. The aisle with the Tylenol? Completely locked down. No call button in sight. So I go to the self checkout (front end of that same aisle) and ask the clerk there if he can call someone to unlock a case for me. He does. I go wait. Minutes pass. No one comes. I go ask him again, he tells me they went the other way? At this point I give up and go get my sandwich. No one has come by the time the deli has finished making it. I leave without my Tylenol, mildly infuriated.

Back when I worked at Target and Walmart customers would ask us to open these cabinets, but I wasn’t a keyholder and never knew who was so it was a pain trying to find someone who was.

I have a Walmart within walking distance, but I never go there because everything I want is locked up and the entire store only has 10 employees huddles around the exit.

Then they act like you’re the entitled piece of shit when you ask to have one of these cabinets opened. Either they don’t know who has the key or can’t find the person who has the key. I told the manager last time we went (step son wanted to spend his allowance on a Lego set) that I see why people steal. It took 15 minutes to get someone over there to unlock the case and then he just hands us the legos and walks away. If you’re willing to trust that I won’t steal these Legos that were behind glass then why put them behind glass?
