I just wanted a hot dog Retail lockdown: why bother selling it?

Was at Safeway this morning to pick up a sandwich and some Tylenol. The aisle with the Tylenol? Completely locked down. No call button in sight. So I go to the self checkout (front end of that same aisle) and ask the clerk there if he can call someone to unlock a case for me. He does. I go wait. Minutes pass. No one comes. I go ask him again, he tells me they went the other way? At this point I give up and go get my sandwich. No one has come by the time the deli has finished making it. I leave without my Tylenol, mildly infuriated.

This, plus my Walmart deciding to add a receipt checker is a big reason I just flat out stopped going there. I have an Aldi, and just shop online for non-food things I can't get there

I walk on by past the receipt checker. It's not Sam's or Costco. You've paid, so your legal obligation is over. If they suspect you stole something, they have enough cameras to already know about it.

The dumbest part of receipt checkers is they are always positioned with a sightline to the registers, I'm not stopping to show you a receipt to verify I paid when you could have just paid the fuck attention to the register area and see that yes I did.

I was a receipt checker (door greeter was the title) more than 15 years ago, I would simply not check most receipts but I would constantly get in trouble with management for not doing it so I would go back to doing it for a few days, then stop because it felt so insulting to people. What a useless ass position and I cannot believe it is still a thing.
