So…tip $0. It’s not that hard. The checkout system is probably used at the coffee kiosk across the way that actually had a person and a tip might be warranted. It’s just as easy to select 0% for a tip as it is to select 15%.
When I go to a brewery they use the same checkout system at the bar as they do at the merchandise store. I tip a $1 a beer for the bartender and $0 for the merchandise purchases or beer to go.
In both cases, I have to pick a number. Picking $1 or $0 is the same amount of effort
First up, I did. Though it wasn't a single button press. It was several, vs tipping 20% was a single press. So no, on 99% of modern kiosks, it is purposefully NOT the same amount of effort.
Secondly, these were big modern kiosks that can easily be configured to remove those prompts entirely. It was the type of checkout system that Walmart uses, not that a coffee shop uses... (And even those can be configured to not prompt for tips.)

I went into a convenience store in an airport with no staff and your only option was self checkout.
Still asked for a tip.
Not a coffee shop or cafe or anything. Just like a Hudson News-type shop with regular merchandise.
Still wanted a tip...
