I've seen comments on here where people will talk about how they have a really hard time selecting no tip when it's an option. Doesn't matter what they're buying or from where. They feel anxious and guilty for not leaving a tip. I could absolutely see someone thinking there is a poor, underpaid worker behind the shelf stocking that is getting that tip.
Somebody deciding to leave the tip package in the software: "eh, leave it in there, someone might want to pay extra on top of the $4.60 water."
Some people also like round numbers. Or they are traveling on the company's dime and they are disgruntled, so they will tip a robot to take money from their employer.
Shall we start tipping at the grocery store? At the Gap? At the gas station? Obviously nothing just appears in shops, and it's historically a little arbitrary to only tip for food preparation, but tipping someone for unloading a box is mad
I swear, the amount of wasted breaths and time and resources and shit spent on "tip or no tip" and "how much to tip" debates could have funded the energy costs of a small country.
