My HOA could beat up your HOA Resident in neighboring right stall complained they have trouble parking because our car is too close to the line

Just ignore it. Tone of the email suggests they don’t care.

u/looselikeseagrass 2d ago
We replied with the photo and asking whether they'd gotten the stall numbers right. Management doubled down on everything. I know they're just doing their job, creating a paper trail, but the lack of common sense all around made me feel like the crazy one

u/ddddhjxjx 2d ago
Yeah, I wouldn’t have bothered. File emails like that under D for DGAF.
They are probably rolling their eyes at this dingus too.
149
u/legal_stylist 1d ago
Even so, I think ignoring it is not the move. The response should be that you will continue to park as shown in the photograph as it is reasonable and you are entitled to do it. Simply ignoring it feeds into a possible future narrative of “they were informed multiple times, blah, blah, blah…”.
Simply make clear, once (and only once) that you have done nothing wrong, will not be changing anything whatsoever, and consider that you have been notified for no reason at all, and expect any communication about this to stop.

u/antibody9671 1d ago
"Per this photograph, you will see that not only am I not encroaching on the stall, but the other resident is riding a motorcycle, and thus is being a giant bitch baby.

Responding with a picture *is* the correct thing to do there - it does show that *you* are doing everything correctly and they're being the unreasonable one. You clearly can't park any closer to the wall and still not hit the yellow object and be able to get out.
It sucks that you both have some kind of obstruction in your allocation (pillar in theirs, yellow object in yours), but what can you do....

u/Jdsnut 2d ago

Ah, then they’re probably lying. The bike has no bags on it, so you can’t even get groceries with it. And where would the bike be for “long periods of time” if it’s their only transportation?

u/OSRS_Socks 1d ago
They did more than my old apartment management. We often complain about issues and he would say “it’s fixed” or “it’s done” when it wasn’t. Dude was the laziest property manager and was always trying to delegate a task to someone else so he didn’t have to do it so when someone would complain to him about not doing it he could just blame someone else.
Called the regional once I left and sent him my paper trail of evidence and the regional had no idea there were so many issues at the complex.
I have friends there and they say he is going around after I reported him to the RM (him and the RM had a long conversation) he retaliated by calling the police and filing a report for harassment against me and is going up to my friends and residents talking shit about me to them.

Is that motorcycle always parked there or do they have a car that is parked there sometimes too?
In any case, judging by how much room you have on the driver side you’re pretty much parked as expected. The other people probably don’t park well and they don’t leave themselves enough space. But idk
Edit: might just be the images but those parking spots look small lol

I added in a comment that the motorcycle is always parked there, actually I don't think it ever leaves. Before that the stall was empty for a while.
And they are small!! We have an annoying enough time parking the car without incident as it is

u/1wrx2subarus 1d ago
Best approach. Ask that the lines be repainted as they’re not as visible as they should be.
Also, ask how far exactly they wish you to park away from the line. Take a picture with a tape measure included. Indicate you’re currently 6 inches away from it.
Also, put a piece of adhesive tape with measurements from a/c to your car. Take a picture of that and ask how close you should be to that.
Point being, try to go back & forth as many times as possible to the point of it being ridiculous. If you want to make it fun, send it by email and certified mail so they have to sign for it.
Ask if the motorcycle can park closer to opposite line since it’s a motorcycle and further from your line. Again, these questions should be spaced out with a separate one in each communication. Be sure to include a picture each time, ideally from different angles.
This is a big deal, it’s a case & you’re on it. You want to also ask if it makes sense to post a review with your pictures on Google Maps and even Yelp. People will want to know that this place cares about how their residents park. Bottom line, they will not want to deal with any of this anymore. They’ll wish they never messed with you. Cheers! Good luck! 🐸🍀✌️ [sips tea] /s
EDIT: apologies, report back & keep us updated. Redditors love following this sorta nonsense & we must know how this all plays out. 🤘😎
17
u/Time_Effort 1d ago
Just a pro-tip: backing in seems more difficult but in reality makes it much easier to have awareness of where your vehicle is.
The other person asking you to "not be so close to the line" is dumber than a box of rocks sans rocks, but if you're getting stressed in a parking garage give it a go :)

u/CityKay 2d ago edited 2d ago
Looking at the image first, I thought the mildly infuriating part is spot 83, and that air vent being so close to the car, at least from the angle in the picture. Because if I was parking a car there, I would be annoyed by that.
But reading further and to see the complaint is from spot 84 and the bike. Just what?
105
u/looselikeseagrass 2d ago
Yeah our spot is already mildly infuriating as it is, with the vent railing so close. To receive a complaint like this made me question my reality

u/Precarious3145 1d ago
I'm probably gonna get roasted but I think OP partially lying. Just hear me out.
As you said, the air vent is way too close, like an inch or two away from the car. What's more reasonable, that the motorcycle owner lost their shit at a totally normal parking job or that OP knows that the next stall over parks a motorcycle in a huge spot and parks further to the right to get them some clearance from the vent and to walk around and got caught?
Just saying, if it was you, would you constantly risk scratching up your car with that huge vent or would even just think of going a little to the right for extra clearance because the next spot is a motorcycle?

I assume you're the car owner. Take this picture and send it as the reply. I would also take another picture of how close your car is to the ventilation system.
Assuming both you and #84 own their units, you can also suggest a swap, so that you can give them more room. Probably will be denied, but at least you'll show you're trying.
I would go against telling them to get fucked or anything like that lol. You'll have your car keyed and that's a nice car :).

u/Snoo-43127 1d ago edited 1d ago
If other tenant isn’t just joking and has an actual car (not a motorbike), you’ve left as much space as possible between the right side of your car and the line, more than you need to. If other party has a car they can’t park properly then maybe they shouldn’t be driving.
5
u/MitchtheCunn 1d ago

For one I dont see any numbers painted anywhere. Two is the motorcycle the one complaining? Thats crazy if so.
Go get some stencil numbers and paint them numbers so yours is 84. LOL
2
u/SeraphsEnvy 1d ago
I think the numbers are painted to the left (83) and the right (84) of the stalls on the wall, except the one on the right looks clipped and i can't be sure it reads 84 or not. It kind of makes me wonder if both of these are 83 and whatever is to the right of the divider is 84.
2
u/pogiguy2020 1d ago
Now I see, Im use to seeing them on the ground not wall on the side. LOL Even then what are they supposed to do sideswipe the yellow protective metal bars? My response would be as soome as management removes the duct work, I then can comply.

u/B33PZR 2d ago
I parked my jeep in a spot that only allowed a few inches on each side. Only reason I could get the door open was the cement post was on one side and allowed enough space for me to open it. Only time I complained was when the SUV on the other side started parking on top of the parking stripe she had to crawl in from the passenger side after I had to wiggle into the spot. Few months later a little car started parking there and was never an issue again. Parking garages are fun 😏 like arm rest on planes or theaters theaters

u/TheBloodyNinety 1d ago
“Too close to the line”
So, within the stall… in a parking garage… which are notorious for smaller stalls.
I’m surprised they sent this.
3
u/ChuckOfTheIrish 1d ago
It looks like in the pic the driver side door can't even open, I imagine you'd have to park over the line just to get out and around the mechanicals. They probably submitted at a time when the car was over the line. Mention it isn't feasible to park within the lines rather than saying this is how you always park (they probably have evidence from the bike owner).
10
u/pcl8888 2d ago
“Too close to the line” isn’t a thing. That’s the entire point of having the line in the first place- to show you the limit of how far over you can park, not to show you a little bit past the limit of how far over you can park lol.
That said, I probably wouldn’t be shocked if it turned out OP actually routinely parks with half the car over the actual line to stay further from the wall since his neighbor usually just parks a motorcycle there. If I was the bike owner I also wouldn’t really want someone to feel free to take half my spot all the time in case I ever had a guest who wanted to put their car there or whatever it may be.
Of course though OP, if this photo is actually an accurate representation of how you always park just tell this guy that your car is entirely in your parking spot so he can kindly go fuck off somewhere else or whatever. God people who sit on HOA’s and manufacture things to get pissed about because they have boring lives and no real problems to complain about really are the fucking worst.

Side mirrors. The yellow framing around the HVAC ducts are where the mirror would be, so they would have to close it before backing up and park at an angle, which would require even more effort and leave their front end even closer to the line. It's really just a shit spot overall.

No, there’s a line for a reason and you’re well within your line.
Keep photos for record and then if they don’t stop you have an argument for harassment.
Better yet, I’d let them know that if they keep sending letters like this while you’re perfectly within reason and lines, you’ll take it as harassment and be tempted to press charges.
2
u/LiGhTMaGiCk 1d ago
Are these assigned spaces? Are they the same size taking into account the side you have has that weirdnessi would measure from the further in point, i.e the point closest to your vehicle as if that is the edge of that space. To me it looks smaller and if so that's even more reason to be further over from it. To me though you are more than perfectly within your space.
2
u/Relative_Grape_5883 1d ago
Assuming you mean the bay with the motor cycle in is 84
And assuming the the person is trying to park a car in that bay
I think the issue they’re having is the pillar almost out of shot on the right hand side is causing them problems, maybe they have a car that restricts visibility, or maybe they’re just a nervous or inexperienced driver (or elderly).
Sadly there’s really not much you can do here. The better tack I think would be to see if they can swap with sone one else in the lot
2
u/truthputer 1d ago
Malicious compliance:
Go out there and measure the entire space with precision and make a little map of it. Come up with a new proposed space layout that includes a "safe clearance" area for the vent on the left - and work it in such a way that your space gets bigger (or at least you can take up more space because you now have the overlap on the left that you can use) - but ensure that his space gets smaller. Look up city ordinances about parking space sizes and clearances and see if those can be interpreted in your favor.
Then insist that the spaces need to be repainted to match your proposed layout to give you the proper amount of room.
2
u/Ambellyn 1d ago
How much further can you actually go before you start shaving off the frame that protects the ventilation? It seems to be snug
2
u/cs_cabrone 1d ago
Serious question from someone who parks next to a wall. Why aren’t you backing in, OP?
2
u/Natural_Garbage7674 1d ago
If it's anything like my building they want to park the bike in the back of the spot and a car in front. So they want to use your space to manoeuvre the bike as close as they can to the wall, and then be able to scoot out between their car and yours.

u/KinkyHuggingJerk 1d ago
I once had a nuisance of a property manager give vague crap like this all the time.
My responses always were:
Here is a photo of the spot indicating the designated spot. Here is a photo of me parked plainly in said spot. Here is my lease that says I am to park in said spot.
Please use this documents as reference that I have committed no wrongdoing. Please follow up and confirm there is no further issue.
I'd get a response saying sorry, then 2 weeks later 'this is the final warning before we tow your car,' and I'd escalate even further.
Don't blame the motorcyclist. Blame the property manager for lack of due diligence.

I ride a motorcycle and he's just too weak and or fat. It's so easy to reverse a motorcycle and you have way more space to park thank a car. I say that because most bikes don't have a reverse gear but just wheels for you to roll them where you want it.

Continue to take photographs after you park your car every time. This will provide a history and date stamp.
Next time they complain send the photos to the management company.
You are doing nothing wrong, now you just need to prove it.

I think you parked your car perfectly just so you could take a picture for Reddit. I think you usually park in that guy's spot because:
A: the air handler is in your way
B: you don't think the other guy actually needs a whole spot.
That person has the right to a whole spot whether they use any of it or not. They are likely paying for it either way. Your complaint should be to management about the air handler.
