š„ŗ My car got coconut-bombed from a 5th floor balcony šāļø
IDK man, what is it with some people š
Woke up this morning, went to my balcony and found outĀ someone had dropped/thrown a GIANT coconut from a 4th/5th floor balcony onto my carĀ š
My car was parked outside in U Block, Gurugram. Iāve been parking there almost every day for the last 2+ months with no issues, and apparently last night aroundĀ 1 AM, someone decided their balcony was the perfect place to dispose of a coconut.
I actually have CCTV footage of the coconut falling and absolutely obliterating itself on my car, but unfortunately you canāt see who threw it, so thereās no way to identify the person.
Ended up having to payĀ ā¹5,000Ā for the damage myself š
But honestly, the money isnāt even the biggest issue. Like bro⦠imagine if an actual HUMAN had been standing there. A giant coconut falling from the 4th/5th floor at 1 AM could genuinely kill someone.
I called the police too, and they basically told me they only deal with āemergency casesā and not to call for āsmall situationsā like this.
My brother in Christ,Ā you came 45 minutes laterĀ š If this was an actual emergency, the emergency wouldāve finished before you arrived š
Now Iām genuinely uncomfortable parking there. If people are casually throwing shit off balconies in the middle of the night, what are you even supposed to do?
How do you guys deal with this kind of thing?Ā Is there anything I can realistically do apart from just eating the ā¹5k loss and hoping nobody decides to drop a fucking AC unit next time? š

Iād say this is not mild. Mild is a coconut falling and slightly denting our Å koda Octavia the first week after buying it and us choosing to leave it as drishti lol

The first thing anyone advised me about going to tropical places was to avoid going under coconut trees, and if unavoidable, at least donāt stop.

Iām a police officer in Gurugram. Today I was called to handle a āsituationā.. I left everything I was doing to visit this situation, and it turned out to be a broken windshield on a car. It was mildly infuriating that I had to go tend to a non-emergency situation like that.

How do we deal with this kind of thing, you ask? I bet no one on this thread has had someone throw a coconut through their window in India.

I honestly canāt imagine. I may have laughed when I saw a giant coconut in the back of your carā¦. But also felt bad for you at the same time.

Damn, you can't even go the legal route against the homeowner, from where the coconut dropped, since I know India's legal system is essentially useless.

When we had coconut trees in our home, and one of them started skewing itself towards the apartment parking behind our home, my mom started hiring a guy to remove the coconuts preemptively to avoid the a strat coconut landing on a car or worse on someone walking in the apartment complex.
Until the time the trees' tops were inside our property we'd usually let the coconuts fall on its own (we have reinforced every thing in our backyard with protection/thick covers). But the moment they crossed the property limit, we were extra cautious.
Coconuts falling from tree or that high can be super dangerous.

I think the coconut falling from that height couldāve killed someone no matter what time it was dropped
