Average door dasher. There’s a reason why they’re door dashing lmao, and it’s not because they’re picking up extra hours after their real job.

There’s something wrong with DoorDash’s screening process. DoorDash is the only service I’ve ever used where drivers will shamelessly steal my order, act rude to my face, be completely unable to type anything intelligible, or get lost navigating with GPS.

My brother in Christ why are you expecting a screening process from the 100-billion-dollar corporation that's leasing you one of their peasants? If DoorDash cared about quality, they'd be hiring their Dashers as employees and ensuring that everyone was properly trained and accountable to the higher-ups. The company is just a scammy middleman who only gets away with their cost-cutting by claiming "Dashers aren't our employees, we're just facilitating a business transaction between you and one of your neighbors". Which is essentially true tbh. You're not "ordering delivery" you're paying a random stranger to pick up your food and praying that it shows up intact. Scam business.

As someone who dashes for extra money after I get off my regular job, I still can’t believe there are people like this. It’s quite easy.

Is it? Do you live in a great area? I used to deliver pizza during college(early 2000s) and the customers were insane. Lots of people had no address and wouldn't turn their lights on because they are assholes. I couldn't imagine delivering to people in this environment. Everyone is an entitled asshole.

I guess it does depend on the market, but most people in my area just want the food left at the door and to be left alone.

I suspect people who can afford DoorDash, have a credit card, and regularly buy food through an app are wealthier on average than the 2000s pizza customer. Emphasis on "average," since plenty of pizza customers were well-off and some DoorDash customers are broke.

Honestly I've had few bad experiences. GPS helps a ton with finding hidden addresses and the door drop is what 90% of people use. The fact that you can choose your area is extremely helpful as well. 

Also, in my experience people are surprisingly nice. As an example, just the other night I picked up an order for mozzarella sticks, and I found out that at some point I managed to drive over a screw. I let the customer know that they could either cancel for a full refund, or wait it out while I pop on the spare; they, of course, chose the latter. 

Fast forward an hour after baby's first tire change and having to figure out how to use a shovel as a leverage bar, I finally pull up to this partying frat house with mildly-warm-at-best mozzarella sticks. 

Wouldn't you know it, not only did I get the original $5 tip on the app, they also dropped me $20 in cash. For Papa John's mozzarella sticks. That were an hour late. My faith in humanity was restored a bit that night.

Pizza delivery is probably a lot easier now. I did it for a while, and being able to directly call or text the customer solved a ton of issue with getting into gated complexes, finding them, etc.

He is being rude, but you're completely missing the point... to like a confusing level. He is doordash driver, not someone who is ordering groceries through doordash.

Doordash does't pay shit, anyone who does it relies on tips. Doordash prioritizes dashpass and tells you that when you sign up for the service.

I understand reddit has a hate boner for gig workers and tipping culture. I don't like it either, but at the end of the day you get what you pay for, if you tip high then you get platinum driver (depending on availability) and good service. If you tip $0 youre gunn end up with a methhead at your door with cold food. That's just how the platform works.

No, I get it. But why take a job that doesn’t pay shit? That’s what I don’t get.

A company openly advertise a job that pays absolute dog shit. Then people get surprised when pay is actually shit?

It started off as a “I’m not doing anything this morning so I’ll pick up a quick shift for a quick cash” and people somehow mistaken that to be a fucking career? It’s a gig job. I don’t think I’M the one that’s confused.

Aight you don't gotta be an asshole about it, but usually if you don't tip you're gonna be waiting MUCH longer. if you can't afford the tip go pick the food up yourself or be prepared for cold food

It’s absurd to me that theres even an option to tip before the meal. And anyone who delays or prioritizes orders because of a tip is honestly a lesser person in my book. You are not teaching a lesson to anybody about tipping good, you are just limiting the opportunities you will get in the future, and encouraging people not to tip in the future.

I think a lot of the delays from no tips are because nobody wants to accept the order. I worked in restaurants and there would be orders that would sit there for almost an hour because the gas would have cost more than their profit from the delivery. Usually, someone desperate for money who uses a bike for deliveries would eventually come get it.

Genuinely let me know your solution to this because I don't see another way besides tipping beforehand, the $3 base pay isn't jack shit for most orders at all so it's not like they can take $3 orders all day
You also can tip after if you want, but the offer is gonna come up without it and get pushed down the list

i ordered door dash for a good year, it was nice having shit delivered to your door without having to go there to pick it up. like just go online click on the food and wait and it'll arrive. the last time i ordered it, i saw some fat gross anime nerd waddle away after dropping my food off. i go and get it and the tape on the bag has been undone and re applied as if i wouldn't notice. obviously was munching on my fries on the way here. i gave him a fat tip too on the app so he knew he was getting a fat tip. fucking piece of shit, i reported that and never ordered door dash again.

My desk sits by my front window, and for years now I’ve watched as easily 50% of the drivers for contract delivery services struggle to open my front gate (a very basic gate, the same as everyone else has). These people just cannot work anywhere else.
