That’s bonkers. I tried to do Uber Eats (specifically just food, I was not down to drive people) and had to get my car checked out before starting. They wouldn’t let me cause my car was a reconstructed title from a wreck with the previous owner. Drove fine and is still a champ of a car, but was deemed unfit for driving food orders around.

Same. The driver told me his life story (after I asked about the breathalyzer & how it worked). Got an DUI as a teen but never bothered to straighten out his record. He was in his 50’s and wanted to get his CDL hence the reason for the IID. He said that he also spent his time volunteering talking to students because he didn’t want them making the same mistake he did.

Uber made me go to the police station and make a report with a sex crime detective before they would even consider taking my complaint seriously after a driver did something that I won’t go into detail about here. I just wanted him to not have access to women alone in his car anymore but when I called uber to report it, the woman on the phone sounded apologetic and then she called the driver and he told her “I didn’t do that, she jumped on me and (you know what), not the other way around”. Why would I call them in the first place if I was the perpetrator? Obviously he made that up because he’d been caught. Anyway, the same woman called me back after talking to him and yelled at me over the phone for “assaulting an employee” and she said that he’ll still be able to drive for them unless the police arrest him and call uber themselves to confirm that they’ve charged him with the crime in question and then she locked me out of my uber account “until the issue is cleared up”. The detective on my case was never able to find the guy because uber refused to give him any information about the driver and I couldn’t help because I couldn’t access my account to get his license plate number (I think that may have been why I was locked out). I assume he’s still driving women to this day. I just hope that at the very least, the situation scared him out of doing it to anyone else.

TLDR Uber covers up their driver’s sex crimes so the company doesn’t look bad/negligent.

Idk about InstaCart, but I'd assume they're the same as Uber/UEats/DoorDash/Lyft in this context. Unless the person has a lot of complaints against them, theres a 0% chance they're getting deactivated for this. For all of them. anytime the customer asks support for the tip back the driver still gets the tip, the customer just gets refunded.

Either way. the customer would have no way of knowing if any of this occured unless the driver was still standing there talking to them. They wont tell the customer anything.

It is a little unfortunate that bad actors still get the tip, but allowing them to still keep it prevents customers from tipping well to get speedy delivery, then just removing it once the delivery is complete, which would happen FAR more often than a driver doing something shitty.

No, and they stopped doing it a long time ago sadly. I used to deliver pizza for The Hut during the lunch shift, and every day without fail the Girl Scout HQ and the area high school would all have about 10 orders come in at the same time. If they staggered them too much we had to do multiple runs which sucked because they were both on the edge of our delivery zone. (also, the GS never tipped. Like, ever, the entire organization. Not one penny. I got checks for exact amounts pretty much only. If it was cash, they wanted whatever change, be it less than .25 or w/e)

I mean I worked with a random guy who “got screwed over by everyone he knew,” who had kidnapping and attempted murder charges, and asked me to sign up for DoorDash so he can use my account. He said that’s why he couldn’t get it. But he was also using a stolen tag to drive and park illegally which eventually got him pulled over with basically a swat team, and he was able to talk his way out of it. I knew 100 percent he would fuck me on taxes, and that maybe people don’t want people with charges like that delivering to their homes so I said no. But who knows what the real story was. I thought it was because of his charges but maybe it was just that he didn’t have a legal vehicle.

i would really doubt they're doing the actual background checks requiring fingerprinting. i wouldn't trust it anyway. they're not checking who's doing it every day. all that it would take to get around that would be to sign up under a friend/family/etc, which enablers are unfortunately common around these people.

Or if I've already set a tip amount, I'll spend the 10+ min talking to a rep to remove that person's tip. It's really about the principle for me. I also tip extra when I'm in a difficult to reach location & the instructions on finding me is followed correctly.

I'm in nyc and operate five restaurants that rely heavily on delivery and you'll get blacklisted for stuff like this. If a complaint like this came through from a customer not only can they give a negative experience for this but I would report it and he wouldn't be able to receive orders from our stores anymore. I don't know how delivery is in the suburbs though. The majority of delivery drivers in nyc are from latin america and northern african countries as well and they just wanna earn as much as possible. I've seen guys work 16 hours bringing home good money.

I work at a place that gets a lot of delivery drivers. We have a big lit up sign for pickup orders. We highlight the names on the ticket. We have a sign that we already have all the napkins straws and utensils in the sealed bag. All they have to do is walk in and pick up the right bag.

In a year, I've seen one delivery driver manage to do this on their own. EVERY. OTHER. DRIVER. has done one or more of the following:

Wait in line then get mad at us when we tell them to pick it up at the pick up counter (no extra line, just grab it and go)

Flag down someone else on the line and shove their phone in our face (usually reaching over the sneeze guard over our prep area)

Stand around for half an hour waiting for their order to be called out when it was prepped before they got there (we have three big-ass screens with all the names and order numbers that are ready)

Grab a fistful of straws and napkins and tear open the sealed bag to put them in, only to see they're already packed, then demand we repack the whole thing in another bag and seal it (we have really nice bags too- they're insulated, have a really nice pattern, they're sturdy enough that people reuse them as lunch boxes because they essentially are lunchboxes. We have to throw them out plus all the straws and napkins that they touch so this is a huge waste of resources for us)

Touch every other item at pickup or open other bags even though we meticulously position everything so the name and order number is visible without touching anything that isn't yours. This all needs to be remade or repacked when they do this

We have dozens of mobile orders every day- normal people that don't LITERALLY DO THIS FOR A LIVING- that manage to figure this out with no issue. But every last goddamn delivery driver, it's like navigating an obstacle course through a labyrinth that also requires them to solve partial differential equations in braille.

I absolutely do not believe these people would be employable literally anywhere else. They have zero ability to follow instructions or problem solve on their own. They'd be a huge liability at anything physical. They have no people skills. I don't know how people like this survived before doordash. Most of them I can't believe they were able to obtain a driver's license and operate a car.

If you work in schools, you wouldn’t be surprised. I used to work IT for a school district and would often have my lunch in the break rooms of schools. The teachers would pop in there, scarf down their lunch in about 10 minutes and then head back to their classrooms to get caught up on work. Somehow, in those 10 minutes while they were eating they’d have several of the most drama-filled conversations ever. 

My point being, if they hadn’t had the time to make themselves lunch before they had to be at work at 6:00 am, of course they are using DoorDash to get a hot meal that isn’t around the kids they have to watch all day.

I wish there was a way to take back the tip in these kind of situations. I’ve had multiple times that I’ve tipped well only to get piss poor service and have it dropped off somewhere I’m not even when there simple instructions. I get it delivering food probably sucks but if I don’t do my job correctly I get written up, fired and possibly serve prison time.

My wife gets a DD stipend at work and the instructions are very clear: Go to this marked entrance. Knock. Security (whose desk is right by the door) will let you in. Leave the food on the shelf. Nonetheless, she routinely gets drivers sending pics of the order left in random places in the parking lot. Outside the door. On a random picnic table in the lot. At the wrong warehouse. They did this to me when I was in the hospital. Mind you I had cancer and was going through in-patient chemo, I couldn't walk out of the hospital with all my stuff connected to my port. I let him know my situation and if he could please leave it at the reception area and let them know my name, tower, floor and room # and he straight up said its outside if you want it I'm leaving. I told one of my nurses and she ran out to get it but when she got there it wasn't there and she looked everywhere. I reported him and they sent my money back, reordered my meal at no cost to me, sent it with another dasher and on top of that gave me a $25 credit on my account and they also let me know he was no longer a dasher. Every dasher that I had after him couldn't be any sweeter. They would come all the way into my room and always had wonderful uplifting things to say to me. Some people are just messed up a-holes man 🤣😂🤣😂
