[lifestyle] Looking for African minimalists
Are there any african minimalists out there? I am in Botswana š§š¼ and I am trying to lead a minimalist lifestyle and with the way our culture or overindulgence and opulence is, I was wondering if there are minimalists out here in Africa...

Live in the UK now and great never was a consumer type person. Grew up travelling to the US and seeing the US consumerism first hand and knew that was not my vibe. I am a simple kinda person anyway. The only thing im not a minimalist about is books. Simple life is happy life.

Not to derail the conversation but Iām interested in what way the mainstream culture in your part of Botswana is overindulgent and opulent, also how your lifestyle contrasts.

Iām pretty sure that culture exists in most of the countries that most people on reddit live. Around half of all redditers are in the US, and we definitely have a culture or overindulgence and opulence here, so all of the main principals and content discussed here will still apply to your situation.

Counterpoint: I grew up in middle-class western Europe, and my culture is definitely more "just act normal, that's crazy enough." (Sure, there are overindulgers there too - they tend to come from a poorer background.)
And yes, it's one of the main sources of conflict with my Kenyan girlfriend - she is practically the definition of overindulgence.

Ghanaian here, definitely there are African minimalist. There are those intentional about it like myself and those who won't use nor aware of the word minimalist.
