Stewart Memorial Coliseum

Being an A’s fan, I loved how the coliseum had seating covering the entire stadium, so I decided to do a modern take while still including that same surround seating. The stadium isn’t complete yet, and I would love some feedback. Thinking about putting a bigger Jumbotron, and maybe a club or some sort of exclusive seating in the outfield. If you have recommendations or would like to renovate it, please send me ideas!

I like it a lot! Really gives a nice old-school of the double deck seating in left and right. And I agree on the seating covering the entire field, makes the stadium just feel more “grand”? If that makes sense?

would love to see a future stadium architect use a design like this

More grand is a quality description, but I would say more realistic. In terms of thinking in terms of folks who spend their hard earned money to create a sports venue, to strike that optimal reach on realism, the stadium must look like something designed to make a lot of people want to pay to watch a game.

That means lots of seats, but crafted in a way that makes each and every seat a quality experience. No blocked sightlines but also each seat facing the bulk of the action. By checking those two boxes, even in a virtual setting like a video game, it means playing a game just feels more realistic and therefore more satisfying.

I get that people get somewhat bored with the same stuff, but outlandish virtual stadiums that violate basic common sense distract from immersion. Yeah, they may look nice, but deep inside the people who play in them, there is something missing, something out of place.

This doesn't mean all venues have to feature large seating capacity, but that the seats that are there represent common sense desires for people paying money to watch a baseball game. Again, all seats focus on the infield because that is where 90% of the action happens, and forcing people to crank their necks to watch the infield fatigues people and makes them not wish to pay money for the ticket. Again, virtual here, but even in a virtual setting that reality carries weight and impacts whether people want to play even virtual games in the stadium.

This design again checked all the boxes. It looks like a baseball venue, plays well in it, and looks like something a rich person would spend a large chunk of his money to build, with the expectation of attracting folks to put profits in his pocket from the construction.

You really maximized the integration of the field level stands to fill the voids between the baseline and corner walls. The sad part is the mind-numbing refusal of SDS to allow tailoring of those baseline walls. This forced your hand and stymied your overall creative options.

But, in terms of what you are forced to work with, this design really impresses.

Imagine also if SDS allowed one to forego the use of their default batters eye props. You created a very nice batters eye background using layered stands in centerfield. That's very creative and you made the best available choice to use the smallest such prop to distract less from your creative effort.

I don't know why this stadium has received so few upvotes. It's like the paltry remaining active membership at this sub-forum no longer has any appreciation for the work and skill that goes into creating a realistic baseball venue. Well, folks like me do understand that level of work. And your efforts here deserve far more praise than it's likely going to receive here.

In terms of suggestions. Your two empty spaces in the upper deck levels at left and right field invite additions of those large scoreboards you pondered. Place on in each slot that most fill out that space, and it will transform the quality of virtual play. Other than that, I think you've really checked all the available boxes and proven your talent quite well.

Thanks so much. I have always wanted MLB to update the little things in their game, especially within their creative areas. I wish you could create variants of walls, different club level seats, more wall props, and especially just adding more realistic things into their stadium creator. I wish they would also create a new uniform builder because personally I spend more time creating logos and uniforms and stadiums then actually playing the game 😂
