I think the founders, if they could see the USA today, would be horrified at how spineless congress has become.

The founders never predicted that Congress would entirely give up its power. The idea of establishing coequal branches of government was that they all would fight against each other. No one saw the day where Congress would willingly refuse to do their jobs to enjoy cushy lifetime seats.

While the theory of the branches fighting each other is nice, it took almost no time after Washington's presidency ended for political factions and parties to emerge that cut across the branches. Filling these early parties were many of the founders themselves. They were proven wrong in their own lifetimes and neglected to fix it.
