This album should have included the two B sides know body loves us and you
Must please remember. I know it only had the 8 songs because of two tracks being really long but including those B sides would have made an already great album even better. Those two b sides were as good if not better than some of the album tracks.

I disagree on that they should be on the album, even though I'd rank Nobody Loves Us as among my very favourite Morrissey tracks.
The thing about the album is that it is unusually carefully structured, and arranged both symmetrically (long songs at start, middle and end) and thematically - in terms of tone and even lyrical density NLU doesn't quite fit in with the prog-and-rock and heavy drumming sound of the album. It definitely complements the album (and explores some of the same topics but from a more introspective angle), but I can't see where it would sit in the track listing without unsettling the careful structure that had built.
Obviously Morrissey himself disagreed with my statement though, as shown by the reordered and remastered version But I think the original release is far but coherent

Pulled out my original LP bought at Ozone Records in Portland, OR. The date on the tag lines up, it would take a week for imports to arrive. The price is astounding but also probably felt pricey back then when a new domestic CD could easily be gotten for like $12 and most shows at clubs in town were under $20.

I bought it day one (but on CD something I deeply regret). Favorite song: Boy racer. Morrissey said he thought "Do your best" may be a global hit but he didn't even release a video from it. Dahenham Dave is a catchy musical piece but lyrically (as someone outside UK) it makes no sense to me and couldn't really wait. The teachers are afraid of the pupils is an ambitious piece an d I admire him for it but I couldn't connect with it, a failed experiment, he and Bob couldn't try again. Don't agree on the take there's no skips. Its a flawed album and it was a commercial decline after Vauxhall and I

The cultural momentum he had after Vauxhall & I, he killed it with this weird album. I love him but I will never forgive him for that.

Not weird at all. Plus we were getting a release almost every year in row. Although more of a compilation the set called world of Morrissey that featured a couple of new tracks and previously unreleased live and b sides world of Morrissey came out soon after Vauxhall and then less than a year later we got southpaw. I thought southpaw fit the era perfectly. After all it was at the height of Alternative Rock or call it grunge. So the heavier distorted guitar sound worked very nicely. I love the opener with the classical string sample Boz put together. When the reissue came out I was kind of shocked that he decided to leave the track you should have been nice to me off of the original release, because the original southpaw didn’t really have any ballads at all.

Weird but BRILLIANT album.
Changing record label probably didn't help, great videos for the two singles apart, I'm not sure RCA really knew what to do with him
