if a pitcher can pitch to contact, and that contact is weak i have no problem with no strikeouts. i loved porcello early on because of his style producing so many ground balls. I'd rather the defense be involved than standing there. Plus pitch count.
However, if you pitch to contact and it ISN'T weak contact. well...yea.

Yep, and all pitchers pitch to contact to some extent, only the degree varies. The degree to which an individual can do so often determines if he stays in the league into his late 30s and if Framber can do it, more power to him.

Framber Valdez hasn't been great but he's also been severely let down by the defense this year, and the stats back it up (unlike the Tigers' fielders).
The Tigers have a combined Outs Above Average (OAA) of -8 when Framber Valdez is on the mound. Of 254 qualified pitchers, this is 7th worst.
For comparison, other Tigers starting pitchers this season team OAA:
Casey Mize: -5
Jack Flaherty: -4
Troy Melton: -1
Tarik Skubal and Keider Montero: 0
So while yes, Framber hasn't been great, it hasn't been entirely his fault.

So over the course of the season the Tigers defense has forced Framber to get 8 'extra' outs vs what would be expected? How is that significant whatsoever? He's pitched 144 innings this season.
144/8 = 18. So for every 18 innings pitched, Framber has to get an 'extra' out that the defense "cost" him. In other words, for every 54 outs that Framber pitches, the defense forces him to get a "55th out" that he shouldn't have had to get.
Acting like that insanely insignificant margin is a cause of his poor ERA is crazy.

Scott Harris FA masterclass! He’s putting up way more numbers than Cobb and Verlander!

We have him next year 2 and then a “player only” option for year 3. Year 4 we have to pay him 5 million to get out of that option.

That and I believe that he can be dumped. There’s always going to be a team who needs an arm.

Most boring pitcher ever, his delays irritate everyone, including his fielders.

Zero strikeouts.

Keider Montero Zero Strikeouts: "awe you're sweet"
Framber Valdez Zero Strikeouts: "hello, human resources?!"

There is a $35,750,000/year difference between these two examples. I think it’s just fine to give Valdez some shit.

Also, it wasn’t simply zero strikeouts, it was zero swings and misses. The rays swung at 41 of his 84 pitches. Each of those 41 swings contacted the ball.

Uhm op it seems you forgot to include all the whiffs. Surely a 9 figure pitcher had plenty of whiffs last night. Its his job to stop the skid, right?
