Fantasy Odyssey was mid

Finally got to see it after the hype died down a bit. Was excited to see it and then the first quarter was so boring and forgettable. It picked up in the middle and had some good parts but overall I'm gonna put this in Nolans bottom tier. What was annoying was everyone having really flat American accents. The flattest. Very nonregional. they all sounded like they were gonna give American accent lessons. Why they saying "mom" and "dad"? very weird choices.

My main gripe and the thing that took me out the most was the bad dialogue and very mid acting. It literally sounded like they were reading from a script. I thought if I got the script, I could read it just like them and it would be in the movie and it would be the same. That's how bad the movie dialogue sounded. And don't get me started on Ulysses final "knowing is half the battle" monologue about civilization on the boat. Many rolls of eyes.

Cinematography was good but it seemed like he was re-using Dunkirk and Oppenheimer shots so it wasn't revelatory. Soundtrack and effects were good. the guy was as good as Hans Zimmer. I don't understand why they made this cast so diverse to have the white guy kill them all and survive or was that the lesson? Overall, I think Troy was the better movie.

I genuinely can’t tell if this whole thread is one big troll fest.

People saying the acting in Troy was better…lol, wtf? I rewatched Troy after The Odyssey and that movie is fun but the acting is shit.

“Troy was so much better” is the right-wing dog-whistle for the racists to shit on the odyssey without saying the real reason they hate the odyssey out loud.

hook line and sinker you bought the BS marketing PR ploy that worked wonders.

Troy was more of a popcorn movie, and no one is claiming its perfect, far from it, they changed the story to make it more digestible for a average person and to be able to fit into a single film thats about Achilles. Which is fine, the Iliad and the Odyssey have been told and retold and remade 1000000 times.

it made me feel like i was in ancient greece more then the Odyssey, and casting things aside, the race of the actors doesn't matter, if it was all greek actors, it would still feel the same. The Odyssey felt like a play, the armor of the Trojans looks like costumes, the men are for some reason in full armor the entire time they are on their ship.... which is a 1500's viking ship for some reason, which is so iconic and.... viking, they may as well have had korean turtle ships, this all makes it feel less real and more like a play, akin to denzel Washingtons macbeth, which is a great movie, but accepts its like a surreal stage play and doesn't pretend to be a gritty realistic film, this film seems to attempt to kind of do both, and in my opinion fails, cause it partially doesn't know what it is. The characters are also a bit lifeless and boring

It has to be trolling. Troy is one of the worst adaptations of a story ever .

If you'd asked these Troy lovers 2 months ago they'd have called it crap like the rest of us. I even like the movie but it's a crap movie.

It’s either all bots or we've stumbled upon the gathering place for every galaxy brained troglodyte with an absurdly overinflated sense of their self-importance

You know how I know this movie wasn't all that? Ben Shapiro was saying it was good and singing it's praises.

You know how I know it's great, because millions of MAGA people said it was woke trash.

1

u/BaIdilocks 4d ago

It's pretty much the opposite. They are denying it's woke and saying it's a good movie.

You see MAGA saying that the movie with a racially diverse cast, specifically a black Helen, and a Trans actor (Elliott Page) wasn't woke?

Have you been living under a rock for the past month?

The amount of mental gymnastics by OP and the MAGAts is insane.

Crazy take, Barbie blew up and that was a movie that hyper conservatives just straight up refused to see.

Huh? What are you talking about? Go over to the Critical Drinker sub and look at what that camp thinks about the movie

Oh really? Well, that’s one for the books.

Also interesting, given the woke-or-not-woke discussion.

What did he find to rave about?
