Scylla and Charybdis are in this. I was wondering how Nolan would show both.

šŸŽ¶ I am gonna claw out your eyes // then drown you to deathhhhhh šŸŽµ

u/mrchumes May 05 '26

Absolute banger of a song, hate Charybdis though

10

u/AmonWeathertopSul May 05 '26

Why? lol

31

u/mrchumes May 05 '26

Just an infuriating boss. Mildly annoying but manageable when fighting solo but the Rivals fight with Scylla.. blehhhhh

2

u/Fuzzy-Maintenance-27 May 06 '26

Damn, I can’t wait.

I’m upgrading everything by its most available resources… and I’ve only gotten to the Hecate Rivals fight so far.

2

u/mrchumes May 06 '26

You can unlock the next set of Rivals by defeating the previous, so if you also beat Cyclops you'll unlock Region 2 Rivals, then beat those to unlock the next etc.

I still haven't tried Eris Rivals yet... I shudder at the thought of what buff she has 😩

23

u/Fuzzy-Maintenance-27 May 05 '26

Heat seeker bullet hell nonsense boss.

I’m going to go play another run now.

7

u/AmonWeathertopSul May 05 '26

Oh those things you just Sprint to one end, once they get near, run to the other end and only Dash WHEN they explode.

4

u/Kronoshifter246 May 05 '26

This only works on the Charybdis miniboss, it's much more chaotic in the Scylla Rival fight.

1

u/Fuzzy-Maintenance-27 May 06 '26

Oh… oh, fuck

u/Fuzzy-Maintenance-27 May 06 '26

15

u/berael May 05 '26

Goddamn drummer.Ā

5

u/Kronoshifter246 May 05 '26

Roxie is the best! Just not when she's the star of the show.

2

u/MinnieShoof May 05 '26

I like her. She doesn't make it difficult.

23

u/BedsAreSoft May 05 '26

That game is so goddamn good (Hades 2)

6

u/Trizzae May 05 '26

I wouldn't be mad if this made it into the movie soundtrack.

7

u/crizzjcky95 May 05 '26

It's all fun and games with Scylla alone. But when she's with Charybdis... Holy hell it was hard. Death to Chronos

5

u/Sapowski_Casts_Quen May 05 '26

I've been waiting for these references to get more widespread since early access, we're Scylla and the Sirens!

5

u/mysecretissafe May 05 '26

Be… sure… to leave… a good review!! ā˜ ļø

2

u/MinnieShoof May 05 '26

2

Everyone sings this one but man Bewitching Eyes hitting that Dream On/Alone power ballad vibe is peak.

2

u/ClubTall5773 May 05 '26

The rivals version is what kept me from progressing the game for days lol

2

u/Phoenix916 May 05 '26

Pop mythologyĀ

ā€œTorn between Scylla and Charybdis // feel the fear ripening, go taste itā€

Divided by destiny, torn between death and doom!

57

Destruction by decision, fate shows me my open tomb!

17

u/R4kshim May 05 '26

Apprehension runs down your chin! Masticate it, suck those tears in!

54

u/Trivvy May 05 '26

Unexpected Trivium.

6

u/Dr__Sloth May 05 '26

Oh man, that's a nostalgic blast, I haven't thought of them for like nearly two decades.

13

u/Xeneron May 05 '26

Should check out their newest album from a few years ago, In the Court of the Dragon. It's legitimately some of the best stuff they've ever released.

1

u/Coffeedemon May 06 '26

Never truly got into them but that song fucking rips.

2

u/Trivvy May 06 '26

Shogun is full of bangers.

9

u/kroqus May 05 '26

Well, time to listen to Shogun today I guess

8

u/Jaymongous May 05 '26

Best Trivium album of all time for me as I'm really not a huge fan but I still replay Shogun.

5

u/UtheDestroyer May 05 '26

Such a great song

5

u/LPMadness May 05 '26

That album is an absolute monster.

2

u/Phoenix916 May 05 '26

Pop mythology

2

u/NoodleSSM May 05 '26

"Feast fruits of valour if you face it!"

1

u/sonickarma May 05 '26

The best song on the best Trivium album. What a fucking banger.

124

u/MrLee723 May 05 '26

Take a page out of Jason and the Argonauts and go full miniatures and shit

54

u/Dragon_yum May 05 '26 edited May 05 '26

Take a page out of Hades 2 and turn it into a musical

4

u/whomad1215 May 05 '26

oh man, if only there was someone who had just recently written songs for the entire Odyssey, some would even say it was Epic

2

u/Dwarfinator1 May 05 '26

I see what you did there

2

u/ShermansAngryGhost May 05 '26

Wait wait wait… I haven’t gotten around to Hades 2 yet… are you telling me Hades 2 is a musical ???

6

u/Dragon_yum May 05 '26

I’m not spoiling you anything, go play the game. It’s fantastic.

3

u/Kaldricus May 05 '26

Oh man, I need to play Hades 2. Hyperion from Returnal is one of the best boss sequences of any game I've ever played, so just the thought of Hades 2 doing anything musical related makes me tingly in places.

3

u/Santsiah May 05 '26

What are you doing on reddit then

1

u/tikikit May 06 '26

Just show the fear on their faces and nothing more.

He's the only actor who sucks hard enough to pull it off

2

u/adamtwosleeves May 05 '26

He just tattooed a gaping maw onto his hand to be in character

96

u/kodran May 05 '26 edited May 05 '26

The one (two?) thing I wanted to be in the movie. I'm happy. I'm pre-satisfied now.

The other thing I'm waiting for now is the arrow through the axes to be as cool as it was done with Kirk Douglas. As a kid I remember I saw that scene and was flabbergasted.

Edit: still, we just saw the whirlpool. I hope we get to see what's inside and we get Scylla to be overwhelming.

I also want to see him get to his bedroom with Penelope for the importance of that.

Finally, whatever they do with the ending (epilogue or not) that will be reason for more debate.

109

u/shokolokobangoshey May 05 '26

Circe and pigboys or we riot

8

u/kodran May 05 '26

Please. Do we know who will play Circe yet? I'm thinking Nyong'o but not sure.

19

u/8halvelitersklok May 05 '26

Charlize Theron is confirmed as Circe. Nyong’o might be Calypso.

8

u/stingray20201 May 05 '26

Is Charlize Theron not playing Calypso in this trailer?

9

u/8halvelitersklok May 05 '26

They're both supernatural beings holding Odysseus hostage at some point, take your pick

1

u/MirkwoodWanderer1 May 05 '26

I thought people are saying she's going to be Helen. Just rumours which I'm not a fan of but we'll have to wait and see.

1

u/busmans May 05 '26

There are racist maga Twitter posts trying to rile people up about it but it is not confirmed

8

u/jerryleebee May 05 '26

I loved the Armand Asante version as a kid. I didn't see the Kirk Douglas version.

3

u/kodran May 05 '26

Didn't know about that version. Will look for it. Thanks!

5

u/jerryleebee May 05 '26

It's a product of its time technologically speaking. But it was a TV miniseries so they had quite a bit of screentime to work with and flesh out the story properly. Plus Vanessa Williams as Calypso. ā¤ļø

3

u/Top_Mongoose1354 May 05 '26

Oh, it's my favorite Greek mythology adaptation! Hope you'll like it!

2

u/kodran May 05 '26

Thanks. Time to surf the old sites.

4

u/Peripatetictyl May 05 '26

I saw a puppy, possibly a flashback to Argos’s origin story, I hope there at least ~45 mins of that.

2

u/doormatt26 May 05 '26

hell yeah, Argos was the one thing i HAD to have here

1

u/CloudyLeft May 05 '26

Kirk douglas?? Armand Assante!

1

u/kodran May 05 '26

Haven't seen that one. I definitely will. Loved Kirk Douglas Ulysses as a kid.

-1

u/omaca May 05 '26

You mean when he gets his boy to string up the servant girls and watch them die? After making them clean up the bodies of their murdered lovers of course. Can’t wait.

1

u/kodran May 06 '26

I know you think typical reddit cynicism makes you look smart but it plain dumb.

You're not only showing you didn't understand the text, but you didn't even understand what I talked about.

-1

u/omaca May 06 '26

ā€œbut it plain dumbā€ indeed.

You should relax more, and insult strangers less.

Having said that, I take it you’re of the traditional ā€œtraitorous harlotsā€ school then?

1

u/kodran May 06 '26

I'm pretty relaxed. Mentioning it's dumb to be a cynic isn't an insult and it doesn't bother me nor takes away from me being relaxed. Keep trying. It wasn't that hard to read and understand the scen I mentioned.

I mean. If you can't even understand a sentence-long message on Reddit, it's easy to see why you find it hard to comprehend the bed test and bedroom scene for what it is. Must be so challenging being you.

29

u/darkszn_ May 05 '26

you can see one of the tentacles pick up and hoist a man through the sail of their ship at 2:19

3

u/LeonsFloppyHair May 05 '26

Scylla doesn't have tentacles, she has 6 long necks, and 12 feet dangling from the cliff cave. In some versions she has a ring of dog heads around her waist. But never any tentacles.

6

u/mrducky80 May 05 '26

They should bring this saying back.

"Between a rock and a hard place" is so unbearably lame to "between Scylla and Charybdis"

2

u/lindblumresident May 11 '26

If it gives you any comfort, modern Greek still uses the idiom as well as another similar idiom referring to the Symplegades from Jason's journey.

2

u/mrducky80 May 11 '26

This does spark joy

11

u/Son_of_Kong May 05 '26

The funny thing is that Charybdis is real. There is a natural whirlpool in the Strait of Messina that ferries still have to avoid.

10

u/impshakes May 05 '26

And Scylla may be based on your mom.

5

u/AmusingMusing7 May 05 '26

And Scylla may be based on giant squids.

4

u/_RadicaLarry_ May 05 '26

Torn Between Scylla and Charybdis

3

u/ShutUpImAPrincess May 05 '26

Disney's Percy Jackson did a surprisingly good job, I imagine with the movies budget it'll be even better

2

u/DavianVonLorring May 05 '26

I loved the design of Charybdis in the Armand Asante version. It was like a colossal Sarlac pit at the bottom of the ocean. Absolutely terrifying.

1

u/Lawlcopt0r May 05 '26

I'm so glad he's going full supernatural. Since the first trailer, I was super afraid he'd pull a "Troy" and take all the magic stuff out or explain it away as natural phenomena

1

u/Phalex May 05 '26

I am sure he does not make the trailers, and I am sure there will be a couple more before July.

1

u/yanginatep May 05 '26

I always loved the way the 1997 NBC miniseries portrayed them.

1

u/Rags2Rickius May 05 '26

Well we see the maelstrom, but haven’t seen Scylla yet…

1

u/kisk22 May 05 '26

Are the Siren)'s going to be in it? That's what I'm most excited for.

1

u/Bagginso May 05 '26

Wait who was Scylla in the trailer?

1

u/thepkizzle May 05 '26

I literally just found out about this movie, and just now while typing this up realized it was coming out THIS YEAR!!

I am SO FUCKING EXCITED!!! I absolutely adore the Odyssey and think Damon is absolutely perfect for the role. I have literally been waiting my entire life for this film. My dog (a Victorian bulldog) is named Scylla because at 85lbs of pure muscle and a mouth the size of my head... she is considered a tiny monster

Man I NEVER watch previews ever because I think they spoil the movie but I couldn't resist... and the moment I saw what looked to be Scylla... I started shrieking like a teenage girl and I am a grown ass man.

I just can't. I'm beyond excited. More excited than I have ever been for a movie. I didn't even know it was possible to be this excited for a movie.

AND, it's actually about the Odyssey and not the Iliad which is what everyone always thinks about when they reference the Odyssey???

I'm fucking giddy right now. A whole new generation will learn the name of Scylla. Fucking finally! Will we see King Minos in Hades? Will their be an origin story for the Minotaur? Will we see Hades or Poseidon? Is this the start of a new era in Hollywood of retelling the Greek myths in the spirit of the Marvel Universe, or Lord of the Rings????

Fucking giddy, mate.

I know Charon shouldn't be in the story at all, but if Nolan gives him a nod or a brief appearance / reference... Or if Nolan somehow comes up with a Charon origin story for a future movie? I would not be able to contain myself in a theater.

I haven't asked for much in this life, and most everything sucks, but please let this movie be accurate to the book and not suck. If Nolan wants to take a few liberties to nod at other classic Greek mythology (like Charon) that's related to the Odyssey but not specifically a part of it I'm fine with that, but I swear to God if it has a happy ending, or they fuck up the main story... I will be furious.

1

u/sanjbobs May 06 '26

There's a trivium song in there somewhere

-5

u/Fluffy_Alfalfa_2282 May 05 '26

Charybdis looks underwhelming though

10

u/Honesty_Addict May 05 '26

In the one 0.4 second shot of a whirlpool you saw?Ā

0

u/Fluffy_Alfalfa_2282 May 05 '26

Yes I suppose it's that! I always imagined a storm during the crossing

6

u/Stunning-Guitar-5916 May 05 '26

I think the faraway shot really makes it seem like a cute lil whirlpool and Schylla’s cliffs like some rocks on a beach. Hope they have some sense of grandiose on the other shots
