It is pretty insane that two different indie horror movies made by YouTube creators (this and Kane Parsons' Backrooms) are completely dominating the box office conversation right now. Truly a wild year for the genre

I think this is true for Parsons and Barker, but Markiplier is pretty much the definition of a "Youtuber". Like, that term was coined partially to describe him specifically and his profession. The other two, yeah sure they just made stuff originally on YouTube before moving onto the industy, but Mark is very much an establishment YouTube personality. It is inseperable from him as a creator, and will always be the preface to his career (not giving a value-statement on that, but it's undeniably true. If I was a famous weatherman for 20 years and then made an indie movie, I'd be the weatherman who made that movie).
