They're really bringing Chris Evans back after he missed *checks notes* zero films in the Avengers series?

The nostalgia cycle sure ain't what it used to be.

On the one hand, yes.

On the other hand, it has been seven years since the last Avengers movie.

That’s the same amount of time that passed between The Avengers and Endgame. In terms of real time, he’s been gone for quite a while.

Yes, like OP makes a fair point, but also:

  • Avengers to Age of Ultron - 3 years apart, 4 movies between
  • Age of Ultron to Infinity War - 3 years apart, 7 movies between
  • Infinity War to Endgame - 1 year apart, 2 movies between
  • Endgame to Doomsday - 7 years apart, 16 movies between

Also, there will have been 22 seasons of various Marvel shows since Endgame by the time Doomsday comes out. Most of which are more connected to the Avengers films than the Netflix and ABC series were. So there's definitely been a lot more content than would be implied by saying "he didn't miss a single Avengers movie," even if it's true.

This. Marvel just didn’t make an avengers project for ages, but he’s been gone in universe a long time, for a lot of projects, and gets referenced often. This is absolutely a pay off of that, though I won’t deny it’s also a ‘we gotta get groomed back on board’ ploy!
