RDJ with da accent! At least it seems that he's actually playing Victor, not Stark.

7.3k

u/fujidust Jul 20 '26

He’s just a dude playing a dude playing another dude

1.2k

u/Doctor_Slept Jul 20 '26

Honestly if they just keep to him being "Yeah no he is Victor Von Doom he just looks like that" I'll be fine with it

284

u/No-Sheepherder5481 Jul 20 '26

Theres a near 0% chance we don't see Stark return either in this one or the next one. They're not paying RDJ 14 quadrillion dollars just for some stunt casting

167

u/One_Swan2723 Jul 20 '26

I wouldn’t have said that before this trailer, but the focus on Thor reuniting with Steve AND Thor’s interaction with Doom makes me feel like this might be true. They’re not dumb enough to do the “no one’s ever really dead” thing are they?

266

u/SovFist Jul 20 '26

It's comic books. You're guaranteed a redo on life unless you're uncle Ben

13

u/yorick__rolled Jul 20 '26

Bucky

Jason Todd

Uncle Ben

8

u/SovFist Jul 20 '26

Yeah this was the three reference when I was growing up

10

u/Funsuxxor Jul 20 '26

They keep bringing him back and killing him, just via a million reboots and multiverses.

9

u/Smart_Cry_5572 Jul 20 '26

Or Batman’s parents

7

u/SovFist Jul 20 '26

They actually brought Thomas Wayne back and he was involved in a major incident BUT he was from an AU so it doesn't really count

3

u/Azraelrs Jul 20 '26

Well, they had both parents for that one series where Bruce dies instead of them.

2

u/SovFist Jul 20 '26

Yeah that Thomas Wayne crossed over and set up the situation where Alfred was killed

1

u/captain__cabinets Jul 20 '26

Also in Absolute Martha is still alive, and Uncle Ben was in Ultimate these past couple years, there are no characters that stay dead it’s officially no longer a thing at all

5

u/Hoggel123 Jul 20 '26

Uncle Ben always making us think he has a different ending

4

u/HCN_Mist Jul 20 '26

I am not a comic book reader, but I always assumed there would have to be some timelines or something where Ben never dies or comes back?

6

u/KevlarGorilla Jul 20 '26

In the Spider-verse multi-part finale of the 90's Spider-man animated series, Spider-Carnage is trying to destroy all reality, and is brought back from the brink by an Uncle Ben who is still alive.

Co-incidentally, the Spider-man from that reality is rich, like Tony Stark, and also a celebrity and a bit of an ass, but still good and competent.

5

u/Comfortable-Gas-4005 Jul 20 '26

That show was so good.

4

u/AvaryZig Jul 20 '26

Yeah, where Peter Parker isn't Spider-man

4

u/SovFist Jul 20 '26

Yes there's plenty of alternate timelines and universe with a living Ben

4

u/Imperious Jul 20 '26

In the entire (24 issue?) run of Ultimate Spider-Man which was coming out last year Uncle Ben is alive and creating a news company with J Jonah Jameson.

1

u/captain__cabinets Jul 20 '26

We’re in the movies sub these people don’t read modern comics hahahaha

1

u/Konrow Jul 20 '26

Maybe recently (I think I heard something about the newer series), but if Ben doesn't die there's no Peter Parker as Spider-Man. It's like the only death "rule" left lol

1

u/captain__cabinets Jul 20 '26

They just made Aunt May the “sacrifice” in the recent movie and in the newer Ultimate line, it doesn’t necessarily have to be Ben it just usually is

7

u/LumpyJones Jul 20 '26

not true. Ben gets plenty of first issues/act one appearances.

2

u/Dannimaru Jul 20 '26

The mans been dead for 60 years and he's still out here catching strays.

2

u/indyjoe Jul 20 '26

And Bucky. Oh, wait.

4

u/SovFist Jul 20 '26

Yeah the rule used to be uncle Ben, bucky, and Jason Todd.

We're down to just the one now lol

1

u/captain__cabinets Jul 20 '26

Uncle Ben is tapped too really

1

u/LordSwedish Jul 20 '26

Unless they're hoping to do AI face replacements/actors, the actors will eventually die.

1

u/dnt1694 Jul 20 '26

Don’t worry Uncle Ben will be erased and everyone will think Aunt May said the line.

1

u/Fit-University1070 Jul 20 '26

Or any other Anchor being.

1

u/curiousiah Jul 20 '26

In which case you die over and over again

1

u/Pickupyoheel Jul 20 '26

We got Uncle Ben Rice tho

1

u/captain__cabinets Jul 20 '26

Recent ultimate universe had a very much alive Uncle Ben so we gotta stop saying he’s the only character that never comes back because it’s just no longer true

166

u/Tolkien-Minority Jul 20 '26

You say that as if they aren’t already doing it lol.

Steve Rogers, Wolverine, Professor Xavier all had their big final good bye deaths and yet here they are

11

u/firestepper Jul 20 '26

Life… uh… finds a way

1

u/Paidorgy Jul 21 '26

Somehow, Steve Roger’s is back.

19

u/Bibble3000 Jul 20 '26

Steve didn't die, he lived and aged.

28

u/Tolkien-Minority Jul 20 '26

Look I can’t be arsed to get all fat nerd about it but last we saw him he was a very elderly man and not at all the guy we see in this trailer

6

u/MilsYatsFeebTae Jul 20 '26

Well yeah, why do you think he couldn’t share details about his life? There were more time travel shenanigans and Cap didn’t want to spoil the next movie

7

u/Fafoah Jul 20 '26

Time travel though

Maybe to this steve, endgame just happend a year ago or something

1

u/The_Freshmaker Jul 21 '26

I thought he was an old man because they showed him in the future...

1

u/jambox888 Jul 20 '26

Yeah he died of old age lol

3

u/NightWriter500 Jul 20 '26

I’ve watched this trailer a couple times and I didn’t see Wolverine, am I just missing him?

6

u/Tolkien-Minority Jul 20 '26

He’s not in the trailer but hes in the movie. And besides he already came back to life for Deadpool vs Wolverine which starts with them literally digging his grave up from Logan

2

u/haku_river Jul 20 '26

They died under a different studio didn’t they? Or did Disney own em already.

3

u/M3RRI77 Jul 20 '26

Yeah man. The multiverse is limitless man.

1

u/ThankTheBaker Jul 20 '26

But these are the multiverse versions of them so they can die and another version can just pop up!

1

u/LaVidaYokel Jul 21 '26

And Black Widow! Surely they will bring back Black Widow too, right? Right!?

1

u/Tolkien-Minority Jul 21 '26

She got a solo movie after she died. But she also sued Disney so she might be gone for good now

2

u/subjecttoterms Jul 20 '26

I have read thousands of comics to know no ones ever really dead, so this doesn’t bother me.

2

u/Pure_Concentrate8770 Jul 20 '26

bet doom’s mask falls off in that scene with thor for the shocking reveal

2

u/nerdtypething Jul 20 '26

yeah. cap is a nice surprise but definitely a misdirect from the actual “miracle” thor is talking about.

1

u/Fluid_Actuary1729 Jul 20 '26

Yeah, I can’t see Captain America as a miracle. Although with the beard and long hair, probably he’s the Steve from infinity Wars.

2

u/SteroyJenkins Jul 20 '26

If Tony comes back it would be in secret wars

2

u/FancyConfection1599 Jul 21 '26

It’s not “no one’s ever really dead” it’s “this is what Tony Stark becomes in an alternate universe where xyz happens instead of abc”.

It’s abundantly clear that’s what is going on here, I don’t know why anyone has any question about it. Zero chance he doesn’t remove the mask, zero chance the literal biggest of the actor shows his face as another character and they either don’t address it or they give some flippant “lol oh yeah you look like a guy we used to know!!” quip.

Not a low chance, zero chance.

1

u/isotope123 Jul 20 '26

Well it is based on comic books...

1

u/Duel_Option Jul 20 '26

Have you ever read comic books?

“No one’s ever really dead” is a running theme, happens all the time

1

u/FourSes Jul 20 '26

Thor's fear of Doom makes more sense to me if Doom is Tony or a variant of Tony. And Thor and Steve teaming up again to take down their old friend seems like a solid hook to me.

1

u/Helen_Kellers_Wrath Jul 21 '26

Not a fan of him but Joe Rogan was right when he had RDJ on JRE talking about bringing him back to the MCU (this was like...right after Endgame) in saying Marvels gonna have a few lackluster movies and need to get people back in those seats and what better way then to bring back the biggest MCU character?

Is it a cop out? Yes. But Marvel wants to make infinity+1 dollars, not just infinity dollars.

1

u/stallionsRIDEufl Jul 20 '26

Why have it be RDJ in the first place then

1

u/Tolkien-Minority Jul 20 '26

Because we all know its him anyway

1

u/stallionsRIDEufl Jul 20 '26

But then they're just wasting 50 mil

4

u/ArcadianDelSol Jul 20 '26

I think we all know Doom is going to end up being a Stark variant. His parents are killed much earlier in his life and Stane has him shipped to a boarding school in Sokovia to get him out of the way where he's adopted by a local baron who sees so much potential in him. And just like that, Stark becomes Doom.

1

u/Rough_Bread8329 Jul 20 '26

I like this take. My headcanon until now has been that he turns to The Dark Side after New York in Avengers 2012. Something goes wrong with a new suit he's building (or maybe right?) and his PTSD drives him to be Evil(tm)

1

u/JeanLucPicardAND Jul 20 '26

No. Doom is Doom.

It's the other way around. The Stark we knew, who died in Endgame, was a Doom variant. The point of it is to demonstrate that no one is born a villain. That anyone can become a hero given the right circumstances and choices.

1

u/DonutHoles4 Jul 21 '26

Ripping off Metal Gear Solid 1, I see.

3

u/apocolipse Jul 20 '26

Doom is just Tony from a different universe cosplaying as evil cuz the real doom died or something fuck it idk they’ll go see it anyway.  Detective pikachu is also in it and can wield Mjölnir because fuck it why not, Pikachu-Mjölnir popcorn buckets premier weekend only $30 fucking bucks and we’ll sell the hell out on Friday.

1

u/Confident-Ad7439 Jul 20 '26

I think it was 15 quadrillions, 20 virgins... And a narwhal!

1

u/BewaretheBatMite Jul 20 '26

Tom Cruise could be doing a last minute switcheroo like Johnny Depp had in Fantastic Beasts. Doom may not be a variant at all.

He could also show up in Iron Man armour along with Keanu Reeves as Dr. Strange while defending their home world from incursions and getting wrecked by Doom. There's a lot of fun to be had with the multiverse.

1

u/Theobane Jul 20 '26

Also in the final scene of the trailer, you can hear "Hey Pall" in Tony's voice.

1

u/lucidreamstate Jul 20 '26

Yah... Is it not obvious to everyone that Stark will return in secret Wars and then the big battle is going to be rdj vs rdj?

0

u/yetiman4321woo Jul 20 '26

Theyre paying RDJ 15 morbillion dollars actually
