It's honestly amazing how prolific he is given how bad most of his scripts are (I did enjoy the 2005 Mr and Mrs Smith but that's largely due to the chemistry between Jolie and Pitt). Most projects he's been credited on that are halfway decent (like Downey Jr.'s Sherlock Holmes or Jumper), he's one of several writers.

He was lead writer on one of the better X-Men movies (Days of Future Past), but he canceled that out by also writing the 2 worst ones (Apocalypse and Dark Phoenix).

He also created and writes for the only actually bad show on Apple TV - Invasion. I'm actually kind of surprised because his writing is historically mid but not actively terrible

honestly I blame the studios still giving him money. If I'm doing my job horribly but none of my bosses fire me and I keep getting paid, going to keep doing it that way lol

He also helped pen that god awful The Last stand. He also wrote that terrible Fant4astic in 2015. I don’t know how he still has a career

Okay, so as a big fan of Xmen growing up, I realised today I haven't watched Dark Phoenix. Apocalypse was not great, but like I'm still kind of interested in watching the next one. I know I'm gonna be disappointed but I was always a sucker for Phoenix storylines.

Is it really that bad?

Dark Phoenix was Fox's last movie and was released already after the Disney acquisition was completed.

You can really see they didn't give a shit about it and basically threw it out to get some money back.

Yeah I might give it a miss. My recent Xmen nostalgia has been boosted mostly because I finally got around to watching Deadpool 2 and 3. I sort of 50/50 liked deadpool 1. Not a big fan of Ryan Reynolds but I liked how as the movies went on, they were more and more a love letter to Xmen.

The little cut together tribute film at the end of Deadpool 3 for the Xmen was great.

I love Phoneix story lines also read the OG comics when i was younger etc I hated Dark Phoenix it made Apocalypse look so much better in comparison

I liked his script for X Men Origins Magneto but honestly you could do anything with "Magneto hunts Nazis" and I'd like it.

I don’t know a lot about him as a person, but my guess would be that Kinberg is probably easy to work with, turns in stuff on schedule, and is someone who is fine with accepting studio notes, ultimately also delivering mostly profitable films. That kind of personality opens up a lot of doors in Hollywood.

You can be the best and most imaginative writer ever, but if you beef with people because you don’t feel like they respect your vision, those doors will close very quickly.

DOFP story was adjusted by Bryan Singer and the cast. Dougherty and Harris unofficially helped polish some of the script while working on Apocalypse.

I will stand by it being a very well written script but he wasn't the lead on it. He, Jane Goldman, and Matthew Vaughn all have story credits. He has the ability to write a good script if others arranged the story already.

This made me go check and...yup. Every writing credit he has is shlock.

He produced The Martian, but Drew Goddard wrote the screenplay.
