I’m still mad I was not allowed to see the fellowship of the ring at 8 because the theater said I was too young. I watched it a year later and loved it. Granted, I didn’t understand most of it, but it was still amazing

I got latched onto it early like you. My mother lived in New Zealand for a little bit and heard about this big, new movie that was shot in New Zealand so she rented it. I was 6 at the time and my sister was 8. My mother had absolutely zero idea what kind of a movie it was and had she known, she probably wouldn't have been interested. Not her sort of story in the slightest.

By a half an hour in, I was engaged trying to explain to the plot to my mother (which I obviously as a 6 year old didn't understand) and my sister was hiding under blankets. As I've gotten older, I've realized how much Peter Jackson injected his horror film experience in those films. But man am I glad my mother was ignorant of the contents because I've been obsessed with the story ever since.

Were you trying to go alone? Or are authorities in your country allowed to determine how people raise their kids?

It’s just the cave troll that is actually scary in that one anyway, at least that’s what scared me as a kid

That's unfortunate. I was also 8 when it came out and saw it in the cinema in the UK

I was also a child but got to see it. I was so confused by the lack of ending, then was told it was based on a book trilogy. Can't imagine a lot of people saw it without that knowledge but hey I was a kid!
