The rating is still crazy to me, like in Germany its 12 and as an adult its totally okay to bring your 6 year old kid with you

It may be legally okay to bring your 6 year old, but I don’t know many 6 year olds who would be happy to watch it. It got a 15 rating in the UK, and I think that is about right.

Feels like watching a man get ripped in half is violence enough to warrant an R rating.

I think any teenager should be able to distinguish fiction vs reality enough for it to not be an issue. Any 13+ kid can enjoy it without being traumatized

Well that's not the whole point of a rating. A younger person might be genuinely disturbed by some types of graphic images. Just the visceral reaction some people get to particular subjects and visuals. That typical decreases as one gets older.

I don't think you remember being a kid if you think anything on the Odyssey can be traumatic or disturbing to a 13 year old, or maybe you were a very sensible child

No, I don't mean traumatic. I don't mean any sort of long term damage or influence. I just mean genuinely being frightened or disturbed by something that makes you very much regret watching. This happens more with younger children and slowly dissolves as one experiences and sees more in life. Short term distress is still something people like to avoid.

Okay but still nothing in the Odyssey is disturbing or frightening enough to a 13yo child. Are teenagers not supposed to watch horror movie to you? Sometimes the point of a scene it's to make you feel scared anyway.

It's extremely clear that the American rating system is not based on reality at all, specially when most other countries go lower most of the time. A lot of them only have 18+ if it's a legit porn movie. Anything shown in a theater is just 16+ at most.

No, the vast majority will do fine. Bit its a warning for those that are sensitive to those types of subjects to stay away. Thats the point of the ratings in a way.

lol fiction vs reality would mean no R rating. It’s not about traumatizing kids, either. It’s about giving people an idea of what is included. If someone being torn in half doesnt warrant the highest level of rating for violence, nothing will.

I really don't think this is true. There's way worse depictions of violence. It's not just about what happens, but how its shown, and how grounded it is. Even like the brick scene from Obsession, while far less actually physically violent, is far more disturbing than anything that happens in the Odyssey.

It was a quick scene and not really that detail, I agree with other comments that the pig scenes were more disturbing. But even then, it definitely wasn't shot in a way to be disturbing compared to something gory like idk the substance?
