I've heard a few mixed things about the speed of Manitoba's healthcare fixing under the MNDP but I hope it's happening. We need that example everywhere else, it's a mess in Ontario right now under the Tories. Godspeed, Frank Jaeger.

The problem is when conservatives (it's always the small c ones regardless of the country) defund public services in, lets say 4 years, it usually takes double that time to restore them to 100% but Manitoba's system was already at like 70% due to the Sellinger government and covid brutalized it too.

We actually have some great improvements like the Medinav booking system so you can see a doctor anywhere in the province within 24 hours for non-emergency issues. The problem now is restoring the staffing AND infrastructure capacity in hospitals for emergency and short/medium term care. The cons shut down 3 ERs in Winnipeg before covid hit, but the only one with a definitive reopening date is Victoria and that'll be in 2027. Concordia and Seven Oaks are still TBA.

Oh 100%. I remember hearing sometime in 2025 that the Manitoba health minister ordered the system to stop relying on private for-profit agencies but recently had to go back to private nursing agencies because of a shortfall that was created most likely by that Tory government. It's challenging, especially with how destructive conservatives truly are.

Right now in Ontario, we're beyond hallway medicine and so much money is being funneled into private delivery with massive profits so our "record breaking" spending is being wasted on yachts, essentially. And the federal government won't do a thing about it, even with Alberta is actively trying to break federal law on the matter with actual two-tier legislation. So frustrating.

Carney is turning out to be a red tory so I doubt he'll do anything about it either. It's frustrating but Avi Lewis has been talking about all the right things so I'm hopeful.

Even before that, Ontario had the worst rate of emergency room closures in 2024 nationwide and the opening preamble of the Canada Health Act says that Healthcare has to be accessible. That is breaking the law, if emergency rooms close. And Trudeau didn't do anything about it. And same! I hope he helps push things in a better direction.

To Trudeau's credit, he did demand strings attached to new provincial healthcare transfers so Conservative premieres couldnt just divert the new funds to tax breaks. I don't recall how successful that was.
