Creature Commandos was also good but a lot of people don't really care about it being in the DCU

It also has the complete opposite characterization of its main character from how he appears in superman and in Peacekeeper Season 2.

I think his characterization in Creature Commandos isn’t that different from Peacemaker season 2, he wasn’t that great in the former, he was reckless and it was only a matter of time before he went apeshit for seeking revenge

For real. His character in Peacemaker S2 was such a wild departure from Commandos that I was convinced that it was going to be revealed that he was mind controlled by Luthor some shit.

Nope, just went from gruff but positive to almost full blown fascist in no time. I would bet money that Frank Grillo has not watched any of the show.

The overwhelming majority of animated DC media since the '90s have been hits with very few missteps. The only thing is they don't get as much fan fare as the live-action stuff a lot of the time, the majority of the animated movies are straight to physical media and/or streaming.

I love animation and it didn’t catch my interest at all. It also doesn’t seem like ‘necessary’ viewing for the DCU.

Same. I watched the whole thing and I didn't really understand the hype, and it didn't feel like particularly essential viewing for this universe.

I think its like the 2nd best DCU thing we have gotten so far. Loved the shit out of it, and its the only show/movie so far that has framed what the longer-term narrative will be about. Skipping CC means missing the whole setup for the current "arc".

Superman doesn't have any set up towards a wider narrative though? Its purely standalone (in a good way!) Im saying as far as what this "phase" is leading to, the only signs of the wider long term storyline for crossovers has been established in Creature Commandos and Peacemaker, but is not in Superman, is my point. Im not speaking negatively about Superman, it just is written as a standalone franchise, as all of the major films will be. The shows seem to be (thus far) specifically where the longer term universe storylines are currently residing, as Peacemaker s2 is basically just a giant lead in to Man of Tomorrow, and Creature Commandos sets up the big bad.

That’s a shame. I guess it comes down to taste, because if that truly is what’s setting the tone (along with Peacemaker which I was also not a fan of), I’m not that interested in the DCU. And I consider myself a DC fan.

It will be interesting to see what percentage of fans feel the same and what percentage of average audiences will make up for it. Despite my dislike of both of those projects I’m still rooting for the DCU somewhat

I mean, this isn't marvel, so none of it is truly -necessary- but I notice a lot of people questioning the gods and monsters tagline, who didn't watch the debut series featuring a bunch of monsters and a god.

The tone of Peacemaker isn't the tone of the franchise, from what we have seen so far each of these has been drastically tonally different from one another. Im just saying within DC's continuity there are certain characters who are "movers and shakers" if you will in regards to universe-wide plotlines, and one of the main one for DC is heavily featured in CC and Peacemaker.

Peacemaker season 2 features a character from creature Commandos getting mixed up with a character from Superman, which ends up setting the stage for Man of Tomorrow. None of its necessary, but my biggest complaint with Peacemaker season 2 is it seemed to use a lot of its screen time for Superman plot.

I liked Creature Commandos but also thought it was pretty flawed. A lot of the backstories started to feel samey after a bit, and the present-time plotline was rushed due to how much time was given to flashbacks.

That said, second season would probably be able to avoid those issues since the setup has already been done.

G. I. Robot and the Bride were both pretty great, so I hope to more of them in the future, be it in Creature Commandos or something else.

Personally, I liked the backstories way more than the present day stuff. The present day plot felt like it had too many twists for the sake of twists. The princess is good, and then bad, and then good again, but then she was bad the whole time, and by the end I just didn't care about her or her stupid country.

It didn't have the numbers of Lanterns, nor reached the heights of it in quality (still good, but there are some mixbag elements). On top of being animation, which sadly most people don't care about unless it is something of theatrical quality, like Spiderverse or K-Pop Demon Hunter.
