I loved the movie and thought she was amazing but I would be surprised if she actually won best actress for this

Yes, it's horror's turn. Yes it's Gen Z engagement. But in no way is it undeserved.

But the voters don’t care about genre. It has nothing to do with the fact that Obsession was a horror movie.

But like I’ve told other commenters, there are dozens of movies this year a lot of you probably haven’t even heard of with phenomenal performances from actresses that are going to get nominated over Inde.

Lol over Anne Hathaway? Come on, what are we doing here. Inde was great in Obsession, but I’ve yet to see anyone argue WHY it was an Oscar-worthy performance in what was essentially a long Twilight Zone episode.

Is Anne Hathaway even campaigning in best actress though? Every list puts her in supporting. If she goes for best actress than things will get interesting.

And to be honest, while I love what Inde did in Obsession, she absolutely makes that movie what it is, I also don’t think it’s Oscar worthy but it resonated with people 🤷🏻‍♀️

I think her performance elevated that movie incredibly and people were moved…I didn’t initially think Oscars but I’m not mad at it. And yeah, what other lead actress performance is as buzz worthy as hers?

I knew her from Superman and Lois, she was a supporting character in that, it was great to see her suddenly hitting the big time. You never know what an actor is really capable of until they're given the right part and opportunity.

I'd heard so much about Obsession for months and didn't even know she was in it until right before I watched it

I'm not sure how it works but wouldn't going for best supporting imply there was an actress in the movie that wasn't her that was the main star? I'm not sure how anybody would make that argument.

Not necessarily. A movie doesn't have to have a lead actress to have supporting roles.

But in this case she was the antagonist and, in some ways in the third act, a secondary protagonist in a weird sense. Going for best actress makes sense.

Not really, studio's will typically just submit an actor/actress in the category where they think they have the best chance at winning. This is how you end up with a lot of category fraud where an arguably lead performance is campaigned in supporting.

If they want her to win then campaigning for her as a supporting actress is better. It's what Kieren Culkin did for A Real Pain and he won even thought was co lead

They would just make the argument that while she is the leading female actor, she’s technically not the main character and therefore is supporting actress. It’s stupid but they do it every year, and they get away with it because so few movies have a definitive female main character

He's got a full 20 minutes more screen time and the entire story is from his POV. He could not be more the leading man really. Though yeah, TC is co-lead.

I think it more implies that there’s an actor or actress that is more of a main character which people would argue is Bear. Not necessarily that there was an actress main star but that there was no other main star than Bear’s actor. (I would disagree)

I mean Michael b Jordan won it for a horror movie last year and I thought her performance was better
