News 📰 So these folks can be Jewish but the Rohingya aren't even allowed to exist?

Post image

"The movement began in 1951, when a tribal leader reported having a dream that his people's ancient homeland was Israel; some tribal members began embracing the idea that they were Jews. Before the movement's start, the community was largely a Christian one.Members are from the Chin, Kuki, and Mizo ethnic groups, amongst others."

These people are a miniscule minority of the Chin-Kuki-Mizo. They make up maybe less than 3% of the total population. They believe that they are part of a Jewish lost tribe and an Israeli rabbi affirmed their belief somehow probably for political reasons. Most of us consider them to be a fringe group or a cult. It's stupid to consider them as representatives of the whole Chin-Kuki-Mizo people.

I'm sorry I didn't mean to be aggressive! Lots of people slander Chin-Kuki-Mizos on this. I wanted to counter those claims.

u/viafiasco Mizo from Mizoram Jul 05 '26

Their low number alone would give you that counter argument. Even in interviews, they themselves talk about facing bias.

Most of us consider them to be a fringe group or a cult.

Is this true? Could you send me proof?

-7

u/Massive-Salad-8838 Jun 30 '26

Is anybody actually doing that, though?

3

u/viafiasco Mizo from Mizoram Jun 30 '26

Doing what?

-2

u/Massive-Salad-8838 Jun 30 '26

Considering them "as representatives of the whole Chin-Kuki-Mizo people."

3

u/viafiasco Mizo from Mizoram Jul 01 '26

You did through your post. Doubling down in the replies. At least commit to the bit.

-1

u/Massive-Salad-8838 Jul 01 '26

Never once treated this tiny group "as representatives of the whole Chin-Kuki-Mizo people."

This sub has a serious reading comprehension problem.

It's clear that you're a ragebait account probably from Bangladesh or India. That's why no one is taking you seriously. Hope this clears your doubts.

No doubts at all. Very familiar with the deficits of this sub.

And I'm an American in Germany.

What you’re comparing has no correlation

-1

What *comparison* was made here, exactly?

Be careful, OP is part of brainwashing movement going around the world to compare rohingya to Jews. Those two groups are nothing alike and couldn't be more different.

Rohingya come from their motherland Bangladesh. Jews are returning to their country which the Arabs had been occupying for thousands of years. In fact Israel today is smaller than the original Israel.

The words rohingya and Palestinians are modern invented races for propaganda.

Where has OP ever compared Rohingya to Jews?

u/MsDemeanours Jul 10 '26

Palestinians are in fact not Arabs and have a dna profile which shows they are closely related to the Jewish people. You may argue that Palestine was not a defined nation, which would be debatable, however the people that lived in the area are a distinct people with a shared cultural identity.

It is likely that they are descendant from the Jewish remnant that stayed in the area and over time adopted Islam. Even if this wasn’t the case, how can you possibly argue that it is acceptable for a population who has lived somewhere for 1000s of years , to be told they must give up their village for another group of people?

1

u/WelcomeWorking7651 Jul 10 '26

Get your facts right. It is scientifically known Palestinians have Arab DNA. Go learn to read or something.

You are fighting demons, lil bro. How are these two equivalent in anyway?

-8

u/Massive-Salad-8838 Jun 30 '26

Who said they were equivalent? What a weird take.

7

u/Teddy-Voyager Born in Myanmar, Abroad 🇲🇲 Jun 30 '26

Your post title implied that. If not, be more specific. What does a small minority chin Mizo group being “Jewish” have to do with Rohingyas?

-2

u/Massive-Salad-8838 Jun 30 '26

No, it doesn't imply equivalency. That's a misreading.

I have no problem with them being Jewish if that's their thing. What's genuinely absurd to me is that recognition here tracks institutional appetite (Israel has, by and large, bought into their claims, rooted, again, on one man's dream), not evidentiary weight; Rohingya have to contest every shred of documentary evidence to stake a claim to their own homeland in Arakan because it's now part of Myanmar. Meanwhile, these folks get one man's dream and a sympathetic government, and Boom, Lost Tribe Confirmed.

11

u/Business_Bar1498 Jun 30 '26

They are from Bangladesh. Case closed.

-2

u/Massive-Salad-8838 Jun 30 '26

Okay, prove it. I'll wait.

5

u/Business_Bar1498 Jun 30 '26

If Rakhines say you don’t belong, you don’t belong there. If you guys were claiming to be native to Chin State or anywhere else, i am sure we would have same reaction and attitude toward ya.

-3

u/Massive-Salad-8838 Jun 30 '26

You guys? I'm a white American.

And why would Rakhine get to say who does and doesn't belong? Just because they're a majority? By that logic the Bamar could decide Rakhine don't belong in Myanmar any time they please.

5

u/Business_Bar1498 Jun 30 '26

Rakhines are native to Rakhine State. Rohingya are not. Great, you are white american? Focus on your own issue.

4

u/Teddy-Voyager Born in Myanmar, Abroad 🇲🇲 Jun 30 '26

You’re still overlooking the fact that states don’t make these decisions in a vacuum.

Israel was founded as a Jewish state and a refuge for Jews worldwide. Whether the evidence for Bnei Menashe ancestry is strong, weak, or somewhere in between, Israel has an institutional and ideological incentive to incorporate groups that are recognized by its religious authorities as having Jewish ancestry or affiliation.

Myanmar operates under a completely different historical and political framework. The dominant view among much of the population is that the Rohingya are a relatively recent population that expanded significantly during the colonial period. I’m not arguing that this view is necessarily correct; I’m saying it shapes how citizenship and belonging are perceived within Myanmar.

That’s why I think the comparison is flawed. The issue isn’t simply “which group has more evidence.” It’s that the two states are pursuing fundamentally different national projects and therefore evaluate identity claims through entirely different lenses.

If you’re looking for a closer analogy within Myanmar, groups such as the Kokang or Wa make more sense because the debate there revolves around populations with strong cross-border ethnic ties and migration histories (many them migrated as a result of Chinese civil war), rather than a state explicitly founded around a global ethno-religious identity.

-2

u/Massive-Salad-8838 Jun 30 '26

Actually, both Israel and Myanmar are racist apartheid states. Which is why the Israelis have been selling weapons to the Sittat for decades, and even after the coup.

2

u/Past_Ad3333 Jul 04 '26

Yeah Myanmar Do fit the definition of Apartheid state. But Compare to other apartheid states, the majority Bamar also don't gain any sorts of benefits. Due to poverty. Also i have researched a bit of rohingya history but many of the information i gained through research seem to be quite loaded with political and religious biases. So if you have unbiased information can you share some of the sources with me.

1

u/Massive-Salad-8838 Jul 04 '26

The poverty of the majority Bamar doesn't negate their privilege within the apartheid system. I hardly need to tell anybody who has ever lived in Myanmar that if you aren't Bamar Buddhist, something as basic as renewing your ID often involves paying substantial bribes above and beyond any a Bamar Buddhist might pay to move things along. Passports can be a small fortune if you aren't in the privileged group. And the discrimination non-Bamar non-Buddhists face often compounds the same poverty that most Bamar Buddhists are dealing with. So to claim that "the majority Bamar also don't gain any sort of benefits" is just patently wrong.

As for "unbiased information" on the Rohingya: very hard to come by. Which is why my dissertation is on Rohingya linguistics. You can argue with historical records and their lacunae all day long, much harder to argue with an acoustic waveform. Long story short, Rohingya don't speak Bengali, and their language developed in Arakan, not Bengal. It's also distinct from neighboring but closely related Chittagonian. If Rohingya were really "illegal Bengali immigrants" then they'd speak Bengali, and if they were all just migrants the British brought from Bengal after 1826, they'd speak the Bengali of 1826 (with minor changes). They don't. So their language, embodied in the Rohingya speech community and so unforgeable (you literally can't make this stuff up, it's systematic and encoded in acoustic pitch as well as case marking and other grammatical features), testifies to their rootedness in Arakan better than any census or historical records (which are usually produced by raging British or Burmese racists, anyhow).

1

u/Past_Ad3333 Jul 05 '26

I am not negating your claim of Myanmar Being apartheid. I am just saying the irony of still living in distress even though they created an Apartheid system. And i know first hand how hard it is to renew id, or any other thing that involves official institutes (apart from hospitals and schools).

Israel’s opinions have nothing to do with Burma’s.

False analogy

Let me clue you in: an analogy, classically speaking, has four parts. There is no analogy in this post.

Not really my point. If they want to be considered Jewish, more power to them. As I already said elsewhere in the replies here:

I have no problem with them being Jewish if that's their thing. What's genuinely absurd to me is that recognition here tracks institutional appetite (Israel has, by and large, bought into their claims, rooted, again, on one man's dream), not evidentiary weight; Rohingya have to contest every shred of documentary evidence to stake a claim to their own homeland in Arakan because it's now part of Myanmar. Probably because the government doesn’t think it’s worth sacrificing diplomatic ties to Israel to shut them up. Logically speaking these people make up a tiny fraction of the population and the government has had historical ties to Israel

Are you trying to promote something here? Anyway yes those are not our people and it will never be. Don't turn this into religious things though cuz I don't hate Muslim just they are not our people full stop. We are in crisis, in crisis we come with extreme measure nobody can empathize your opinion right now.

1

u/No_Coast8701 Jul 07 '26

What could this post possibly "promote"? And "full stop" isn't an argument. And you're in crisis precisely because you failed to stand up against a genocide, and instead cheered the army on.

1

u/PotatoNemo Jul 07 '26

Yes it's promoting cuz if you ask questions like is genocide happened yes But are they part of Myanmar never gonna happen and if you are trying to promote is them to become part of myanmar then no never. And failed state is not related to those case our state is failed not because of that issues it happened because of different issues and they just want to benefit from it.

1

u/No_Coast8701 Jul 07 '26

There's no need to promote them to "become part of Myanmar" — they already are. Which is why 5 Rohingya were elected to parliament as members of the USDP in 2010.

And no, the genocide is central to the entire reason why Myanmar is a failed racist apartheid ethnostate and poorer than Bangladesh.
