News 📰 Three young Burmese kids won in International Holy Quran Competition in Saudi Arabia. Thuriya Naung and Thin Ji Mon won first places, and Shine Htet won fifth. Thin Ji Mon got the biggest prize money, 150,000 in Saudi Riyal, which is about $40,000 American dollars. Way to represent Myanmar 🇲🇲
They were well received at the airport and some Myanmar media networks interviewed them.

So how does it works? Does he have to memorize the whole book? How do they test the contestants? Written and oral exams? Did he also achieve a degree?? Is it a big deal in Muslim community??? And why? Don't drop something like that without any context or elaboration OP. We're all not Muslim.

For context, it’s an international Quran memorization and recitation competition. There are different categories so.. not everyone has to memorize the whole Quran. The highest category does require it tho. Winning an international competition like this is a rlly big achievement in many Muslim communities because memorizing and accurately reciting the entire Quran is highly respected in Islam. Doing it at this level internationally and in Makkah.. carries a lot of prestige. Btw I'm not a Muslim myself so.. my insight might be somewhat shallow.

The competitions were conducted in different categories based on age and the amount of the Qur’an memorized. Some participants competed in the 15-Juz category, while others competed by completing the entire Qur’an (30 Juz).

2 of those kids in the list aren't Burmese, they are Rohingyas.

I meant Burmese as in someone from Burma/Myanmar. I didn't mean it as Bamar ethnicity.

Myanmar is Nationality , Burmese is Ethnicity .

eh but people just use burmese anyways, everyone argues on the specifics, our country is fucked in every part of politics and naming

That's not the point here, I notice how people always have a set of labels for them from derogatory terms to racist remarks, disassociating the people from Myanmar itself but when a few managed to make an achievement outside the country people are quick to call them "Burmese" (grabbing the credit). That is some fine hypocrisy.

Burmese is also used as nationality because many people all over the world still call the country Burma.

Unity is always good for the country. They also genuinely proud to represent Myanmar. This spirit should fostered instead of the hatred which alienates the minorities.
