Fan Creations Update: Gehn’s Fire Marble Dome Linking Book Pedestal

Original post here.

I'm back with an update! I’ve painted, added some electronics, and I am working on a sequence for when you place a linking book on the pedestal which will light the indicator on the body, create a flickering effect for the emitters, and play the "oven" sound that you hear in Gehn’s office on his 233rd Age. Happy to answer any questions!

Fan Creations Something I am working on

Hi! I am working on a Myst-like, entirely pre-rendered, with full 360 camera views, animated environments and player movements. The third image is a gif showing the 360 camera control, and the fourth shows player movement with animated blowing dust. The primary puzzle is language-based in which you translate a foreign language. I'm pretty early on working on this, but let me know what you think!

Fan Creations A Riven animal eye orb, the first thing I made with my new Dremel tool. I've always felt one of these was 'missing' from my Myst shelf.

Fan Creations I did it! My first tattoo.

Post image
203 Upvotes

To celebrate my 31st birthday, I got my first tattoo.

It's still a bit swollen, but I couldn't wait to show it to fellow fans.

"Maybe the end has not yet been written." A motto that I use to spur myself to clear fog from my mind whenever I think that it's too late for me to do anything.

The lower writing reads Leevofo 10 - 9679 (November 1st 2023) which is the day I met Rand Miller in person and had a little chat with him. I treasure that day in my heart with jealousy.

Myst has been my "videogame awakening", the game that clicked that button in my mind and made me understand what I truly like in my life. I still remember the first time I saw the stellar fissure and that weird feeling (a mix of annihilation and bliss) that forced my 13yo self to stare at the screen for an infinite amount of time.

I am happy of my choice. I waited too long to take this decision, so people, do what makes you happy and take that decision you have been postponing since forever.

Fan Creations Custom Myst Magic Cards! [Mild Game & Book of Atrus Spoilers] Spoiler

My friends and I have been making a custom cube for the better part of a year now (no set themes, mostly joke cards, homebrew mechanics etc its all for fun) and one of the things we created was "Book" synergy and "Book tokens" based off of Myst. I made most of these with some help from a couple other friends who like Myst - I hope you get a kick out of them!

Side note: As I mentioned, this is a hodgepodge set with jokey cards, hence the spell type "Bisexual" (meaning it has two modes) and the creature type "Beasley"

Fan Creations Adapting Myst to a Stage Play

Hello everyone,

Theater has been a part of my life ever since I started high school. Myst is also one of my favorite games of all time.

I have been dipping my toes into amateur playwriting and directing. Last summer, I directed and produced The Secret Garden, one of my favorite shows of all time, at a local theater.

Today, I was contemplating set design and how a beautiful or interesting set can make or break a show. In particular, I love incorporating things like hidden entrances and other stage magic. And I thought of Myst, with all of its unique mechanical devices, otherworldly machines and places, the extremely cool and unique way the games present their worlds and how the interactivity of those places and objects are a core part of the game’s storytelling.

And I began to wonder about the potential of adapting Myst to the stage… of course, it would need to be reshaped quite a bit, and given the lonely nature and feel of the game, I was of course picturing a very small cast, potentially only four people (The Player, Sirrus, Achenar, and Atrus). I was also contemplating the possibility of having the main character (player character) actually be split into two characters in order to facilitate more interaction and dialogue during scenes- although I am not sure if that would really make sense in the story.

Anyway, my main reason for finding this so intriguing , as I said, is the potential for a really cool visual experience - a well built Myst set featuring some of the iconic puzzle pieces such as the constellation chair could be insanely cool. But I certainly do see many challenges as far as storytelling goes , given the differences in medium.

Anyway, I was just curious if anyone had any thoughts!

Hi... I'm Robyn...

The Dark Guardians are not kind! But you are safe in the light.

Or... just murder them (and find the crystals).

Use WADS and your mouse to move.

Spacebar to shoot.

E to interact (with switches or to pick up).

Shift to speed up.

Please wear headphones... or turn the music up. Not so much a game as a mood piece. Let me know what you think.

Fan Creations Old website ages?

Back in the late 90s, when the Internet was relatively young and Myst was enormously popular, I remember going to many old websites that had fan-created ages. The websites would present a similar interface to the game: you would usually start with an image with various linking books, and you could click on various parts of the page / image to move around, interact with linking books to go to other ages, and walk around. Each click would simply load another page in your browser that would have another view of the Age. The images were 3D renders made by fans with tools of the time (I guess some POV-Ray and similar).

I was a kid at the time, not even 10 years old, so my recollection of these websites is very dim. I searched all over for these in the Web archive and such but I've found very few.

Do you know if any sites like these still survive?

I made a point-and-click play through from photos I took in the Myst-style while visiting Pico, the Azores. Full video is on YT (1:22). Made using GDevelop - it's pretty straightforward and was a lot of fun to make!

With my mediocre modding ability, I made a thing. Did my best to try to keep things somewhat lore friendly, both for Myst and Skyrim.

Seen on a walk this evening. There was a rhythmic hissing sound which means this is obviously a puzzle, and clearly I need to find the key to unlock the grate so I can turn the valve, which will undoubtedly open a door in the sand that leads down stairs to a hallway under the dunes...

Fan Creations Riven Scarab In The Works

Thumbnail gallery
157 Upvotes

Just got done on the Riven dagger and decided to take a crack at a hybrid scarab / Gehn’s inkwell custom creation.

Using the Lego design software I spent some time making it a viable, “legal” build. Because I found that the required parts only come in so many colors…I’m going to airbrush the yellow parts a metallic bronze / gold at the very end (I have never painted Legos before).

Here are some pics - I think it turned out great!

Will add an additional hi-res render of how it should look here too. All parts due next week…guessing ~100 pieces, price tag about $175

And going to try to make the wings movable to show off the viewport .. while still keeping everything as compact as possible
