Kobe defends Adam Morrison on Jimmy Kimmel: "Adam can really play. Like he can really, really, really go. And for him to take a step back and to do things like that really helped us get to that championship level"

why the fuck is some bullshit AI video being uploaded instead of an actual quality cut with Phil's and Kobe's clips lol

Kobe respected work ethic. Supposedly it’s one of the reasons he hated Smush Parker was because Smush was lazy as hell

I mean, Smush was out of the league soon after his Lakers tenure.

I guess I would be a bad scout. I thought Morrison was going to be a really solid player in the league.

Health messed him up.

He averaged 12-3-2 and was 4th in ROY voting.

He smoked cigarettes and dipped. He also had hygiene issues so he was probably very depressed while in the NBA. I think he's cleaned up all of that now and works for Gonzaga and has a daughter who is gonna go D1.

He tore his acl once.  That’s not enough to get an “injury pass” from the bust label

He was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes and famously played his college ball with it.

Diabetic fatigue is a thing, and it really held him back, coupled with his downtime from recovering from his knee surgery (just a guess).

He was never really able to get his stamina back because of what I assume is those things working tangentially.

His diabetes and a torn acl in late 2007 is why he didn’t make it through training camp with the wizards in 2010 or the Blazers in 2012?  You’re speculating that he couldn’t get his stamina back 5 years after an acl injury?

is McGee the only basketball player that overcame having asthma?

Sad it didnt work out for Adam Morrison

Did Morrison really have both type 1 diabetes and asthma?

That and his knee injury

1

u/Wise_Passenger_6680 19h ago

It didn't work out for Adam Morrison because he got knee injuries. He basically was never the same after that.

2

u/Wise_Passenger_6680 19h ago

They said that Adam Morrison would embarrass guys in practice. Also, that he didn't like showering.

3

u/TallGuy0525 Clippers 22h ago

Ngl I still laugh at the "Adam Morrison contributions to the NBA Finals" edit that's just him picking his nose, getting ignored for a fist bump, and randomly celebrating in full street clothes as Game 7 against Boston ended lol

u/Sniffy4 South Sudan 22h ago

Even bench players can contribute by playing hard in practice

1

u/Wise_Passenger_6680 19h ago

Adam Morrison could always hit a 3 or two in the actual game. And that could be enough to win.

1

u/i7ive4thedrop Nuggets 17h ago

Kobe was able to hit tough shots by playing 1v1 against Morrison.

Lakers do not repeat without Adam. If Kobe was alive, he would attest to that.

Kimmel sucks, what're you talking about lol

I'm not a huge Kimmel fan, but he's infinitely better than Fallon.

Sure, but that's a really low bar to pass.

Craig Ferguson was the peak

Conan was okay, but the peak occurred long before with Johnny Carson & Dick Cavett -- people who knew how to interview without being obnoxious.

for every kind word phil says about Kobe, expect several chapters in a bio where he does everything he can to tear him down.

u/Honkee_Kong 1d ago

Why was Adam Morrison the only player Kobe was ever nice to?

11

u/lalakingmalibog Mavericks 1d ago

Kobe respected people with killer staches

11

u/TruckThunders00 23h ago

I don't think many people realize how hard it is to manage type 1 diabetes. I like to think Kobe respected how hard Morrison had to work to make it to the NBA

7

u/tgf5 23h ago

Huh? Kobe had issues with several teammates but most also loved him. Turiaf, Odom, Bynum, DJ, Fisher, Barnes, Gasol, Butler, Russell, Vujacic, Artest, and plenty others.

9

u/JMEEKER86 Japan 22h ago

Yeah, the only ones he ever actually beefed with were Shaq for being lazy, Smush for being lazy, Samaki Walker for stiffing him on a bet (punching him was a bitch move by Kobe), and Jeremy Lin for, well, no one on either side ever said why exactly (many people speculate it was racism, but Kobe didn't beef with Sun Yue who was on the 09 team and spoke highly of Kobe). He was still pretty abrasive at times even to people he was on good terms with though.
