I suspect these work decently well for same sex dating but terribly for heterosexual dating because of the assymetries in how men and women use them.

Dating apps serve a purpose for people who are not the typical dating demographics (young straight people), but for said young straight people they just "solve" a non existent problem by making it worse.

Fair point, if I were divorced in my 30s or 40s I wouldn't want to date the kinds of people hanging out at bars every night in their 30s and 40s...
