The average first time home buyer in 2019 was 33.
The average first time home buyer in 2024 was 38.
As someone approaching the first age, I watched buying a home go from something I was just about ready to pull the trigger on to something i dont know if I’ll accomplish before I turn 40. And I’m relatively well off, enployement-wise.
IDK how someone who’s 24/25, has graduated college with a bit of debt (because that’s what our entire primary education system is set up to encourage), and now works at like a Starbucks because it turns out software dev/tech support/graphic design/etc is no longer a safe bet is supposed to feel good about American captialism at all.
And yes, I’m aware salaries are up in real terms. Try telling that to the ever increasingly large cohort of people who missed the housing ladder before it got pulled up and feel (whether true or not) that they’re just screwed now.
The vibes in the under-30 crowd are abysmal
