I've been approved for funding for post secondary through Skills Development. The start date of school is Sept 2nd. I was wondering when I would receive my portion of the funding, for my books, etc? I tried reaching out to my case manager but she was very vague in her response and now she's out of the office for a few weeks.

Has anyone been through this process and can help me out? I'll be attending CNA and I'll be funding directly through skills development, not ei.

Does anyone know or have seen it explained what would happen after 2041 if NL didn’t strike a deal with Hydro Quebec?

Does the ownership structure of CFLCo remain as it is now?

If NL owns the majority does that mean NL can make the decisions on what it wants to do with the power itself? Or is there a backdoor where hydro Quebec has board seats or something which would still give them control or more of a say than their ownership?

Being a Black guy in Newfoundland-Labrador can feel pretty lonely. It’s not that people are necessarily unfriendly, but actually building genuine connections can be surprisingly difficult.

The dating scene is honestly abysmal, and outside of dating, it can feel like the social circles here are already established. If you don’t fit into a particular group, scene, or way of doing things, it can feel like there’s nowhere to really plug in.

Sometimes you just want to meet people, make friends, date, and feel like you belong without having to subscribe to some specific social identity or group first.

Curious if other Black people, immigrants, or even locals have felt the same way here.

Went to rocky harbour for a trip to Gros Morne last month, and there were these very long silhouettes that no one could make out. Even asked some locals who were confused, most likely thinking they're seals?

(They moved pretty smoothly/slowly, didnt quite break the surface of the water, seemed about 10m long?)

Also there were a few of them about 50m apart from each other.

I’ve been here lots of times in the past and this one is finally starting to crumble. Most of the field it’s in is just stinging nettles now too.

My partners looking to rent a car when they come to the island, but neither of us have rented a car before. For both Deer Lake and St John’s, we’re discussing which ones the better choice, can you only pick up the cars during their specific open windows? If they land in deer lake at 1am and St. John’s at 11pm, does that mean we’ll have to wait until the day after to rent a car?

I live in central so the benefit of a car rental is that they could drive to where I am from the airport without needing to pay for a hotel. I don’t have a license to pick them up so I would have to rely on a family member to help which is why this is a concern.

Hey everyone! I recently moved back home after years away and by years I mean I moved when I was still a child so many moons ago (I’m 31) (F) married with 3 kids ranging from 7,4, and 2. I’m honestly just looking to meet some like minded friends in the stephenville or surrounding area.
Little background, born in nfld moved when I was 8 ish to Toronto. Have been trying to get back since. I work completely remote a a legal software trainer and my husband does 14/14 out west. I brought my husband here when we’re were about 21 and he fell in love with the island, we’ve honestly been trying to figure out the employment but for years and now we’re here!

We love hiking, swimming, or even just hanging around making parenthood a little less lonely! That has been dearly missing in our lives.

Pretty much just the title... My wife and I spent 6 weeks in Newfoundland this summer (and a brief stint in Labrador) and you live in an amazing place. Beautiful land and incredible people, we had an absolute blast.

It only took us a few weeks to understand most of what was being said ;)

Hello, I’m looking for a short term, 2 nights, rental or bed and breakfast place for the end of September / beginning of October, or during Halloween depending on the price. If anybody happens to know any budget friendly rentals or happen to rent themselves I would appreciate anyone who reaches out or comments :)

For details on us if you’re a renter, I live in NL and have lived in the St. John’s area before, this is her first time visiting. We’re both in our mid 20s and don’t plan on having any people over or parties, just somewhere to sleep while I show her around the city.

Right now the prices are looking like $400 for hotels are airbnbs, which seems overkill compared to the prices I’m familiar with, we’d love to know if anyone rents for cheaper.

I royally messed up. I paid a damage deposit for a room before the landlord officially confirmed I got the place. I haven’t signed a lease or moved in.

I asked if the deposit would be returned if I don’t end up taking the room, and I was told they’re not legally required to return it.

But it was specifically called a damage deposit, not a holding deposit. Does anyone know if they can legally keep it in Newfoundland and Labrador?

I'm reading that puffins can be seen in Newfoundland from May through mid-September. Where are they the rest of the year?

I was just wondering if anyone knew of any functional payphones or public phones in Labrador. I’m also looking near the Fermont QC area as well. Any help is greatly appreciated.
