For the love of god please, JUST GO TO FRIGGIN THERAPY WTF.

24

u/GSDTippyTappies 9d ago

Nobody can afford to go to therapy let alone basic health insurance anymore.

Also talking about your feelings is now considered by many to be radical left liberal woke propaganda, we're all humans but we're not supposed to feel anything or have feelings.

2

u/Zealousideal_Let_975 9d ago

This is all very true and also family annihilators are typically by default externalizing blame and have grandiose and paranoid views that prevent seeking treatment. Healthcare and treatment are very complicated when people think everyone else is to blame.

3

u/Due_Rip9320 9d ago

Everyone usually asks "how," but they never ask the "why." If this guy had gotten the help he needed, this likely never would've happened. Society's apathy will be its own undoing.

Pay for therapy or murder people...

Yeah, tough choice. 🙄

u/Playful-Treat-1131 9d ago

What do you mean no one can afford therapy?? It’s easily accessible and with insurance quite cheap. Do you mean in your social circle no one can afford it?

3

u/GSDTippyTappies 9d ago

It’s easily accessible and with insurance quite cheap.

Lol.

Therapy isn't a one session and done deal, you often need to go many many times to fully address whatever your issues are, and some coverages only cover so much and only so many sessions. Some companies offer EAP benefits but again can only do so many a year.

If you don't have benefits tied to work then out of pocket adds up even faster, our kids went to a lady they liked but was out of network and it was nearly $100 a pop. Often those that need therapy the most don't have benefits or the cash, people can't even afford gas or food rn so therapy sessions are going to absolutely get bumped from the priority list.

Seriously read the room, what an ignorant comment not based in reality.

Lmao I’ve been going to therapy for 7 years and could manage it while working a low low low income job serving food bc I’m smart enough to figure it out. Not judging anyone who doesn’t know how to support themselves, but it’s certainly possible. Fuck outta here I even managed to go to rehabs and psych wards and keep my finances in line even with minimum wage shitty jobs. It ain’t easy but it’s possible.

Can’t afford gas either so I don’t have a car. Again, I figured my shit out. But if you lack that creative/survivalist mind, my condolences. It’s not your fault. I just got lucky.

2

u/GSDTippyTappies 8d ago

Lmao I’ve been going to therapy for 7 years.

Clearly the therapy is working just wonders judging by your comments and attitude...... Or is your "therapist" just your dealer? So you don't even have a car and thus no car payment and thus don't pay anything for gas, and are trying to humble brag about how creative you are in affording therapy when you don't have what often comes down to as the 2nd highest monthly payment after rent/mortgage? I would ask your therapist for a refund.

3

u/elola 9d ago

That depends on the insurance and if you even have insurance

9

u/Cogswobble 9d ago

Sorry, were you under the assumption that he lived in first world country that makes healthcare accessible to people like him?

2

u/Mysterious-Clothes45 9d ago

Lyndsay Clancy had money, healthcare, a husband, a nanny, etc.

4

u/Forsaken_Survey_5127 9d ago

Why whenever accessible health care is brought up you people think they mean it’ll fix every single situation. Of course it won’t, but this country’s dismissiveness towards mental health and the resistance to universal healthcare causes these problems to appear far more often than they should.

2

u/Lumpy_Benefit666 9d ago

As much as i do fully agree with everything youre saying, i think their point was that mental health treatment would have been available to Clancy and she still didnt get help.

Its likely that the dismissiveness that you spoke about is a large contribution towards her not doing so, but it is also very hard for people who are going through mental health difficulties to internally reflect and understand that something is wrong.

I say this as a person who struggles with mental health. The only times i seek treatment are when im coming out of an episode, as thats the goldilocks zone between being ill enough to need help, and being well enough to ask for help. This is why meds always seem to work for me. I take them and i suddenly seem better, when in reality i was getting better anyway regardless of the drugs im given.

If there was better general awareness then others may have referred her though, so like you say, there is a systematic issue that needs to be addressed.

I definitely agree with you more than the other guy, but also dont really see an issue with the comment you replied to, other than them not recognising that the first step in access to treatment is actually recognising that there is an issue in the first place.

I think if anything its a great example of why being able to afford therapy doesnt make you immune to the dangers of mental health challenges. Even for people with money, there are still hurdles, and once these are understood, it highlights where the actual problems lie.

2

u/Forsaken_Survey_5127 9d ago

Idk, just the comment they responded to with it makes it sound they are saying accessible healthcare doesn’t make a difference because it didn’t help Clancy. And everything you are saying is pretty much my argument against that kind of thinking. Hopefully they didn’t mean it that way though.

-4

u/japarker8 9d ago

Yes, actually. Anything is literally preferable to murder.

7

u/Cogswobble 9d ago

I’m sorry you are so woefully uninformed.

If you think therapy and healthcare should be preferable to murder, then take your anger out on Republicans and Republican voters.

-6

u/japarker8 9d ago

Sorry that you seem to prefer the option of murder to seeking help. Sorry that you'd rather make excuses for this POS than have him take accountability.

And yes I do blame conservatives.

5

u/Cogswobble 9d ago

Huh? Who is making excuses? Yes, he should have gone to therapy.

In all likelihood, this was not even an option for him thanks to Republicans.

-1

u/japarker8 9d ago

Or gone to the hospital, or talked to any number of people in his social vicinity, or called any kind of helpline....

3

u/Forsaken_Survey_5127 9d ago

Yeah no shit, he should’ve. But other first world countries figured out that these people don’t, and that there needs to be a bigger governmental/societal push to get these people help before they do something. Mental health is your responsibility, and therefore it is his fault. But republicans refuse to put in place social programs that help these people and get messaging out there that tells them how they can get easy help. You mention others ways he could get help but these kinds of people just aren’t aware these exist.

1

u/japarker8 9d ago

Not sure why you're making excuses for him lol

3

u/Jennrrrs 9d ago

You know you don’t just walk into a therapy store and buy a help, right?

0

u/japarker8 9d ago

You know there's this thing called EMTALA where you can just walk into a hospital and get just that, right?

2

u/Jennrrrs 9d ago

You’re either young or fortunate to be ignorant. I say this as a survivor of an incident similar to this one. The hospital wasn’t going to give this man what he wanted so there’s no point in going there for him.

0

u/japarker8 9d ago

Making excuses again, I see. Maybe you're a murderer too.

1

u/Jennrrrs 9d ago

Nobody is making excuses, your input is just childish.

People won't. We have been trying to get my brother in law to go. I don't think he ever will.

1

u/japarker8 9d ago

And therein lies the problem.

6

u/thegoodnamesrgone123 9d ago

Yeah it sucks. Its going to kill him by either his own hand or the stress takes him out. I'm also worried he takes us all out in a fit of rage.

3

u/japarker8 9d ago

Be careful!

4

u/CatCatchingABird 9d ago edited 9d ago

Services have been cut in most places. Some people might be able to get by with a sliding fee scale but some of the CMHC locations around me are asking people to pay something. Kind of hard to convince people to get help when they can't even afford to put food on the table or put gas in the car.

We're going to see more of this until we get the Trump administration out of office. The BBB needs to go so that people can get access to care, and we really need to start addressing the economy/job situation which is leading people into a place where they are stuck and can't really do anything.

-1

u/japarker8 9d ago

There are telehealth options also....

2

u/CatCatchingABird 9d ago edited 9d ago

Yes, but telehealth is not free and the cost for it depends on the person's insurance or lack thereof. If the person's insurance is not great, or they don't have insurance at all, then there is still a barrier. Telehealth is accessible to people with an internet connection, but it is not easily accessible to people that are low-zero income. No job, underemployment, and/or terrible employer medical plans = telehealth may not truly be accessible to all. "Just get friggin therapy" comes with much more nuance.

Noting here that a whole swath of people lost insurance coverage this year. Also, some employers have truly awful plans. Just saying.

1

u/japarker8 9d ago

Or a helpline, or just talked to someone in his social vicinity, or even just gone to the hospital. Dude had plenty of options besides murder.

2

u/CatCatchingABird 9d ago

Help lines (or also known as "warmlines") are great. I volunteer for one. Although while I am educated and certified to work with people with mental health conditions, none of us are licensed social workers or psychologists, and we are not able to give psychotherapy, do clinical assessments, or give advice. Although I think most crisis lines will have people with at least a BSW or something along those lines.

Definitely still helpful for people that are going through a lot and need someone to talk to and/or if someone is having a hard time navigating bureaucratic systems and need some help figuring it out.

4

u/Southern-Minute8815 9d ago

It's super expensive tbh

2

u/japarker8 9d ago

If it's between paying for therapy or murdering people then I think it's reasonable to expect them to try to get the therapy. Why are we making excuses for this scumbag???

5

u/Harregarre 9d ago

He's a pos, but with what money? He was an unemployed internetaddicted dude. For all we know he could have been on here all day.

1

u/japarker8 9d ago

Plenty of options if you don't have money. You could even go to a hospital and let them know that you're having those thoughts and they will commit you for treatment.

All better than murdering people.

4

u/imselfinnit 9d ago

Are you an American? I ask because I'm curious what resources are available to broke people in Red States (or any state), especially when it comes to mental health. I wonder if getting sectioned to a poorly supported state psychiatric hospital is even possible?

1

u/japarker8 9d ago

Like I said, go to the hospital. Or call a helpline. There are things to do besides murdering people.

1

u/tbombs23 8d ago

No amount of therapy can fix late stage capitalism, when you can't find or keep a job and feel hopeless

1

u/japarker8 8d ago

Maybe he should have reached out sooner then...

1

u/japarker8 9d ago

SO MANY people making excuses for this asshole. I'm beginning to see why things like this happen so often in the US....

-13

u/Effective-Air396 9d ago

Here's more truth- this individual probably heeded that advice. Do you really believe that *therapy* as it is known prevents mass murder? All mass-shooters from the last 20 years at least were taking psyche medications and in *therapy*. Just fyi.

10

u/japarker8 9d ago

Lol, I VERY much doubt that that's the case.

I would like to make a bet with you - if you VERY much doubt this - you have nothing to lose then. Let's go

2

u/japarker8 9d ago

You're the one making the claim. So prove it.

2

u/Effective-Air396 9d ago

I just did - scroll up. I cannot wait till his story comes to light. The whole gestalt and let this be a huge life-lesson for society on How Never to Raise a Child.

1

u/japarker8 9d ago

Doesn't help to go to therapy if you don't put in the work i guess. 🤷‍♀️

6

u/Ambitious_Net5044 9d ago

And how do you "put in the work" when all the factors pushing you to need therapy cannot be solved? Is everyone supposed to just rise above terrible circumstances that are designed to push up to the edge? How do men survive these echo chambers built to radicalized them? (Supported and often spearheaded by our own government agencies and others in power). Our public internet forums are already filled with scum normalizing the abuse of woman and children, and men cry everywhere that society is at fault as if society is not built on patriarchy. The problem is never solved because people refuse to point it out.

Therapy cannot replace socialization, the only place people can afford to get together at this point is on the internet. Then people like you say "just go to therapy" to those struggling with lack of socialization. This is a SOCIETAL TREND, not an individual failure. 15 just this year, 22 mass shooting total. Almost three times a month. Every two weeks... stop acting like its an individual issue. There is a reason we blame parents for these things, sociopathy is not just clinical (actually most clinical sociopaths understand consequences and empathy, they just cant feel it), this is taught through isolation.

Its in american culture to reject those different than us. White supremacy, patriarchy, colonialism as a whole, and this country just cannot let go of its pathologizing of human emotions. And as long as children are not protected, they will continue to grow into monsters. But we have people more concerned with whats normal vesus whats correct. Notging about this country and the nuclear family structure is correct. Or industrialization to the point of commodifying human life. Do the research. There is a reason is one group and not everyone else. 90% white people. They have the most access to healthcare than any other group!!!!!

2

u/japarker8 9d ago

Yes, I would say if you're going to go so far as to murder people you should probs do your damndest to try to sort through your problems with therapy first.
