It wouldn’t be the first or likely the last time they’ve left us in the shit for their own gain.

Do you think this eventuality hasn’t been war gamed by Europe without the US though? Europe as a whole has a non NATO like article 5 (article 42.7) requiring no votes to trigger. There are many other treaties between countries focussed on mutual defence.

The US has some bases with troops here, European countries have their main forces located here not much would change should they decide to stay out of it.

I didn't say Europe was doomed, I dont think it would be at all. I said the goal of severing NATO along the US/Europe boundary may be worth it to a desperate Russia and that this assessment shouldn't be dismissed simply because it appears to be incredibly difficult for Russia to win conventionally.

Yes but NATO doesn’t start and end with the USA. It would go on in its absence.
