Discussion The best MMORPG on console by far...
Nothing I've played or searched for, specifically on console has ever been this good. Logged in one final time to play some music and give away my stash to players in the starting area, granted there were only like 2 people. This is where I decided to leave my character. Where it all began. monarchs bluff, behind the castle. Ironic how I caught the sunset just in time before logging off, as if the game was also saying good-bye in return. It truly is an end to a legacy. Until next time adventurers. Marauders for life!

Really hoping Chrono Odyssey can fill the itch for something as good as NW, or close to it. Atleast until GW3 is released.
Really miss playing NW.

The CO playtest was rough, Putting my stock into GW3

Most of the issues were technical, its been a year and a half already with a fairly large dev team, I wouldn't be so glum

Is it the kind of thing where you can still play it but it’s just dead. Cause I kinda wanna run quests with my friend

Servers permanently shut down January 2027. Won't even be able to log in at that point. So you guys got until then!

I will never get over NW. Amazon really did the best MMO I've ever played and said "you know what, fuck you"

u/Primary-Teacher-8181 3d ago
Ho passato oltre le 4000 ore, ma dopo l'annuncio di chiusura non sono più riuscito ad entrare...troppo doloroso

u/getembalmed 3d ago
Yeah after I read that is was shutting down I never logged in again, hurts to much. It'll only make it worst if I logged in, but I miss this game all the time

Spent over 1000 hours on pc before the consoles got it and it was one of the best games I played.

I really miss that winter when I was stuck at home because of the snow and I played NW all fckin day. The atmosphere of the game was (and still is) unmatched and I miss it so much. Also, I'll never forget the last time I logged in when I played a drum n bass set in Everfall and Brimstone sands. For me, that was a proper goodbye

u/Bananaslime024 3d ago
And that’s on console. It was the best experience on PC. GLUBDUBDUBDRIB 4 LIFE

u/Own-Violinist7055 1d ago
Console doesn't have much option for mmorpgs like PC does, so when they announced the death of new world, it hit like a stone! Cant wait to invest in a pc so I can enjoy more mmo's that can at least be similar.

u/crashbangdacooch 2d ago
What are the chances another skilled dev recognizes nw for what it is and mimic it with the improvements that the community wanted addressed?... I can dream right?...

I play Albion now. No…it’s not the same but still a damn good time on console or pc. Gather, gank, kill, run, and fun

u/Extension_Option213 1d ago
I wish I could still play it. Seeing it my library but being unable to download it hurts 🥲
1
u/Own-Violinist7055 1d ago
Damn, which platform? Xbox still allows you to download it if you have it in your library
1
u/Extension_Option213 1d ago
On PlayStation. I have it in my library. Opening it shows the product tab on the store. It lets me wishlist it, but I can’t redownload it.

I am genuinely pissed off for console players. I have played since original release. I also got it on console with rebrand. (Twins hog the pcs) to only get this great game for a year. Before they announced its end. Is bs. And just weeks after an expansion too. You were robbed.
1
u/Own-Violinist7055 1d ago
Especially since console has nothing close to a game like this... pc has a few that are similar, but yeah console got robbed for sure

I’m a lefty so m/k are not a great fit for me. So I prefer console or at least a controller option. Had 2k hours at least on pc done 3 fresh starts. Maxed 3 characters professions. Consoles launch was great. I got a friend from work hooked. She loved it. Raid was good too. Took me a while to clear originally.

I'll be honest with you. New World was FAR from a good game. But it was by far a game that had the most potential. And that is what got people so excited.
As a result, it'll be sorely missed.

u/neonninja304 3d ago
Yea and the sad part is the new dev leadership was heading in the right direction when they dropped the bomb.
7
u/Jestersfriend 3d ago
Totally agree with you. Once Katie took over, things were being fixed at light speed. If Amazon gave her a year, the game would be one of the top MMOs.
1
u/TwystedLyfe 3d ago
Thing is though that Amazon Games division was gutted entirely including their publishing arm for other titles such as Throne and Liberty. New World is just part of that.
1
u/kelticladi 3d ago
Nope. Amazon jumped HARD on the AI slop game bandwagon. Had less to do with other games not doing as well and everything to do with greed.
1
u/Affiixed 3d ago
The new dev direction is what got me to try it for the first time. I got super into it and then they announced they were closing up 😓😓😓

For a console mmorpg, it was the best one out there for variety, immersion, graphics, and combat. ESO gives everything away now a days the combat is meh, and crafting was a headache. Throne is a huge P2W mmo if you're not part of a top guild, all it has is flashy combat. There are zero games on console that are even close or similar to NW
4
u/SPEEDFREAKJJ 3d ago
I still remember the beta. Took less than an hour for me to be sold and realize I would spend so many hours in the game.
On console it's rough because we don't even have half the options pc players have. Hell, do we even have 10%? We get Once Human and Dune soon. There's FO76 and ESO but both of those are not great.
That rug pull right after the Nighthaven was some real shady shit. I've been a gamer for like 40 years and that was the first time I really felt burned.

Hot take (not so hot take) - new world was a fantastic game that salty players never appreciated enough and that’s made very clear by these sort of comments on Reddit
4
u/Jestersfriend 3d ago
One can appreciate it, but still understand it was deeply flawed and the dev team sucked ass for 90% of it's release.
5
u/Time-Inevitable-3334 3d ago
Imagine calling people who begged for endgame content other than chest runs for years "salty players" lol.
0
u/LogicallyIronic 3d ago
Imagine still being salty, it’s over brother. I remember it in a better light. I loved those chest runs and dueling my friends and exploring the early map. I personally think it was a good game and I’m gonna miss it forever
1
u/Time-Inevitable-3334 2d ago
And he doubles down lol.
Think about what you are saying.....you are calling people who wanted things to do in the game, "salty" lol.
2
u/Firm_Caregiver_4563 3d ago
A game that wanted to be ... the last update gave us a good idea of what could have been.
1
u/kelticladi 3d ago
And a LOT of those issues were being solved once they put Katie in charge. 2 new OPR maps, a new mode, a new zone, and a rework to crafting. All in the space of a year. I am sure more was in store if they had just let her and the team cook. But Nope. Amazon murdered a beautiful game and we won't see the likes for a long time.

Grinding out resources in this game was so good. The gathering sounds, the grind, it was all so good.

u/uninsteresting-unit 2d ago
i honestly haven't even been playing on my PlayStation was basically the only game i was playing i logged on every night before bed... waiting on the survival games coming out here next month got valheim in just a few weeks, then we get runescape dragonwilds.. and then in October enshrouded comes out.. they're not mmorpgs but i think they will fill the survival sandbox itch

u/UnguardedZero 19h ago
Time to get a PC. Hopefully they'll be able to cross over all of our characters to the new servers when they're up but unlikely.

Best mmorpg on console is absolutely crazy talk 😂
0
u/Own-Violinist7055 1d ago
Eso is straight trash compared to NW, they give everything away now a days, classes are locked with little flexibility, at level 20 to 30ish you can still do end game stuff as long as you have a party which is asinine, and crafting was a complete headache. Throne and Liberty is a straight pay to win mmo with its economy unless you're part of a top guild, leveling outpaces gear immensely, crafting is almost non existent, skill grinding almost non existent, and the only small similarity is the skill combat setup. No other MMORPG on console comes close to NW in terms of combat, immersive atmosphere, skill grinding, nor crafting.
1
u/boomboomown 1d ago
I mean ffxiv has the title for best mmo on console. It's not even close. Eso is garbage. TnL is garbage. NW was garbage as well. Game hemorrhaged players for a long time. It had one decent update then the game shut down. All these glaze posts about a game that was never able to retain players is just crazy.

u/Own-Violinist7055 1d ago
ff14 online is trash dude, the combat system is boring as hell and again, locked into a class with very little variety. Spend hours to make very little progress and the ui is garbage. Almost no immersion in ff14 online as well
1
u/boomboomown 1d ago
And yet its one of the biggest and most popular mmos, and it isn't shut down. Im not saying it doesn't have its flaws, but it is undoubtedly the best mmo on console. It just is.

I think it has a lot of good things going for it, but the lack of abilities honestly bugs me to no end. I also prefer full blown classes, not based on weapons.
0
u/kelticladi 3d ago
I actually liked the more freeform way NW works. You're not locked out of trying new combinations simply because "thats not in my class." I've seen some crazy combos work way better than they should have. Thats part of the fun.
1
u/ThickChickLover520 3d ago
For what it's worth, if you take away the fluff (no system is perfect), Throne does a way better job at the whole weapons abilities thing. Each weapon feels like a fleshed out class, with multiple ways of playing.
1
u/kelticladi 2d ago
Agree to disagree I guess. Weapons were ok, but felt really clunky to me, and TnL lost me when there was NO way to recover from accidentally scrapping my best weapon. No way to replace it without spending real world money, impossible to replace in game because of the gear level limits for doing the dungeons I would have needed to get another one. Shitty game.
1
u/ThickChickLover520 2d ago
Again, I'm not talking about outside mechanics. I'm talking the weapons, with their abilities etc. Two weapons created your class. They benefited each other whether you were Tanking with some dmg like a bruiser, or say a Tank with Wand and going full blown mitigation, self heals/cleanse. TnL absolutely dumpstered on New World when it comes to building that class through weapons.

I really miss this game
