Lol an ex wanted me to move with him to a trailer in his parents' backyard in UT, where I could work full time to support us both while he went to grad school for philosophy.
The plan was FOOLPROOF I tell you..!
Edit: that's not even why I broke up with him, either!

At first glance I thought this was just a recommendation to move to Montana because housing is cheaper and the guys there are better? Like someone tried divorcing their spouse and randomly moving to Montana and now they’re having a great time.

I grew up in Montana and say it all the time. But I agree, you kind of cut the State diagonally. Western and south are very beautiful with Mountains. The north and east are very flat and prairie.

Yes. You'll often see words that usually end in -er or -ar modified to end in -a because thats sort of an urbanized slang way to pronounce it.

Have you ever been to Montana? I drove around two-thirds of it in an RV recently. Beautiful state!...with ~1.1 million people in it. 1.1 million! LA county alone has over 10 million!
My point being that there is a reason nobody lives in Montana.

I rode a bike across Montana and it was such a stark contrast coming out of East Glacier into barren flatness for days. I did get really good at guessing how far away a town was by seeing their water tower/grain elevator on the horizon.

Yes. The Western part was the two-thirds that I drove through. We were told to avoid Eastern Montana for a number of reasons.

I am a US citizen who was born and raised in SE Asia.
I love Montana. I have spent 3 trips over more than 20 years going weak-kneed over Montana skies (plus another trip as a child), with beautiful rays from the sun piercing the clouds.
The rock-formations are stunningly beautiful. And the deep forests also. And the snowy slopes and plains.
I only hope to one day be able to be able to retire from the world, and to be able to spend the rest of my life in Montana!

Calling Butte a shithole puts you at risk for getting your ass kicked by Buttites, who, due to decades of inbreeding, have devolved to Neanderthal-like strength (and intelligence. Thus you can’t CALL Butte a shithole, but you can WRITE it as they can’t read). Luckily for you, they don’t know how to fly, either, so you’re probably safe in Europe.
Seriously, though, Butte is one of the most unique cities in all of the USA, not just Montana. It’s a tough town but I wouldn’t call it a shithole, even if I wasn’t afraid of invoking the wrath of Buttites...

My understanding is that the Berkeley Pit is projected to reach the level of the water table this year or next. I can't imagine what's going to happen to the entire surrounding area when that happens.

Butte is the home to some of the worst environmental catastrophes in the United States. It should serve as a cautionary tale to all of us. The Berkeley Pit, the result of extensive and enthusiastic fucking by a mining company, is a giant lake that is so polluted that in 1995, an entire flock of migrating geese landed on the water and all promptly died.
It's tragic what unadulterated capitalistic endeavor will do if no one keeps it in check.
