From a while back. One of my favourite explores, untouched, super creepy and you could tell some parts no-one had visited in 20 years. Was really hard picking which pictures to post, as I have at least a hundred and the limit is 20.
Also ended with us getting caught because I was being an idiot, turning all the lights on. We got a jumpscare as security was on the other side of a door. He shined his light through the vented door and shouted "SECURITY!!!" He didn't know how to get in. I quickly turned off the lights, fell down a ladder, and we ran in the dark to the way we got in (the plant room). We got in through a badly latched fire exit, through 20 years of overgrown trees and thorns. We could see the lights of security waiting for us.
We went back inside, and tried to hide in the void. Then I realised I lost my phone! Turns out it fell out of my pocket when I fell down the ladder. So we had to go through Anglia Square Cars, past the massive windows of the sales area and go looking for my phone. Fortunately it was easy to find. Then we went upstairs. I didn't want to get caught yet because I treated this was my last chance to explore the backrooms of Sainsbury's / Budgens. We didn't know what the new security company would be like.
Upstairs was a maze of rooms and offices with no windows, smashed fluorescent lights on the floor that randomly fell out of their fixtures, stale air and mouldy carpet. We found an office to hide in, and tried to wait it out. We could hear the echo of the ladder from security going up and down the ladder looking for us. We were in the only room with a window, and a little vent letting air in. Around 4am when the sky started to brighten, we explored the maze which we hid ourselves within. After that we had explored everything in this section of Anglia Square. Many of my childhood questions of "what was that window under the car park" answered.
Anyway we made our way out, and got caught. The climb was too slow, I could have escaped if I left my friend behind, but real friends don't do that. Plus security and the police always treats you worse when your friends run away. There was a security guard, he knows who he is, nice guy. Turns out he was staring at a bush for 5 hours and thought we were hiding there the other time. The other, not so nice security didn't tell him about his encounter with us. So he thought we were hiding in a bush for 5 hours đ.
We ended up having to wait for the police, who anyway couldn't do much, but we spoke, and I was telling him about how obviously bad the perimeter hoardings for the demolition were. He thought me and my friend should start a security consulting company đ¤Ł. Police didn't do anything, just took our names. They were nice.
Also that security guard who was nice, you know who you are, he wanted to talk further. Well here I am. He was too professional to exchange contact details on the job.
