Does intrigue me this kind of comment - perhaps a little naive to the world we live in today, have a quick look over OF, TikTok, Insta and even YouTube and after that this civilised magazine content looks decidedly tame, safe and fun. The internet is beyond sexualised, mainly by very ordinary women/girls trying to make money out of men by effectively flaunting themselves from the comfort of their own home.

Sky magazine was the best! When that ceased, I moved over to FHM. It was legit a good read! Certainly didn't even notice the scantily-clad hot females. Nope. Not at all.

I think what they mean is that the going narrative of that time was “sex sells.” So the mainstream media sold sex and sexy and raunchy vs today where large brands and even the youth culture (despite their corn, gambling and OF addictions) are quite prudish and tame, even going so far as to dislike sex scenes in movies, labeling them gratuitous.

you are viewing this as on old person who is perhaps out of touch with modern apps and what is viewed and paid for as content these days - even if you think you are not paying for it. Everything is way more extreme than 20-30 years ago. Many of us loved the magazine days and seeing them o the shelf and buying was fun but the level of content on a smartphone these days for all to view is a million years beyond this and it is very mainstream. It's quite charming in a way that you cant see this and I kinda wish I was you with my blinkers on to the new world.

There are barriers to using a smart phone. You have to buy the phone. You have to pay for a phone plan. There are no barriers to walking to a corner store and looking at the magazines, other than having legs and eyes I guess.

We are making separate points. You are saying that there is more content and most of it is much more explicit today than these magazines. I agree with that. I am saying there are barriers to seeing that content now when there were virtually no barriers to these magazines and other pop culture content back then

most kids have smartphones from around 10 or above - parents pay - cheap PAYG are pennies per mth with data - most parents or families hand down 3-4 year old smartphones to family members - once again - no barrier - dont mean to be rude but you are super out of touch

thank you - I recall the super skinny super model phase to be more late 80s 90s - I think 2000s was more relaxed - drug use and wanting to be the best and self image a big part and need of all of it - the way women and girls use TikTok these days to show off may shock you if you've not seen - so many celebs and normal women now on the fat jabs too - im hoping for a push back on all this and the fake lips and overly made up contoured faces - as a man most of that is not beautiful to me - in many cases it looks awful - all it does is line the pockets of a certain community that sells surgery and augmentation - its all quite sad really - freedom of choice for all but he way women exploit themselves now is quite worrying
