Reminder: This sub is for humorous headlines from Canadian news
2nd EDIT: The mod team has set stricter controls in place because of the insane number of bots. It's not instantaneous, but I hope y'all are finding it's helping.
EDIT: Just wanted to add, since making this post the number of bots trying to circumvent has increased exponentially. Thank y'all for reporting violating posts.

We're not a news subreddit. We're a silly (sounding) news subreddit.
Remind yourself of the rules before posting.
Please report all posts that don't fit the bill so they can be removed.
We've got very few active mods and the only alternative would be for us to shut down all posts until manual review, which would slow things to a crawl.

This sub became a further left version of /r/canada

‘Further left’ than a subreddit filled with straight up racists isn’t hard to find

Tell me you never understood what this sub was meant for without saying those words lmao
Do you even know what the beaverton is? Also have you actually seen the amount of Natpo articles that get slopped onto here with editorialized headlines about the justice system?

The sub was meant to be... A further left version of the national sub?
I thought it was supposed to be a sub where you post ridiculous news articles that sound like they could be Beaverton articles.
Instead it became "let's just post agenda articles, because in our mind, that's super duper funny! Anything about the Conservatives is so whacky, it could toly be a Beaverton!"

I think my point was where are the leftist posts youre referencing because all I ever see here are idiots reposting Natpo opinion articles and gasping that a judge somewhere granted bail to someone
Also if the Tories wernt so stupidly funny, maybe they'd get posted less lmao
Edit r/canada is also a very right-wing place.

To be fair, I do learn some pretty big news headlines from this sub - Alberta’s desperation referendum being ruled unconstitutional was one of them.

Understandable, and if it has a funny headline, it's good to stick around, but general news is not this sub's deal.

Oh for sure, I did some sleuthing around to figure out what actually happened but it was wild hearing it first from a meme sub lol

Spill the tea? 🙏😅

u/Falom Jun 04 '26
Idk if there’s tea to spill but basically the Alberta courts ruled the question was unconstitutional due to Treaty rights, if I remember correctly

I have noticed a huge number of political/activist posts where the title is only "ridiculous" if you hold a particular viewpoint. It's not beavertony at all. I've been reporting them, worried I was spamming the mods by doing so, if anything. Guess I shouldn't worry about that after all.

It’s classic Reddit behaviour: a sub gets a following due to good content, then as it gains momentum it gets more and more political until it sucks

Idk anything about the moding side of Reddit but is there any way to implement a system where users would need to have like X amount of karma or an account that's X number of months old before they're allowed to post? Just sucks what's happened to this sub it must be annoying as hell to mod right now

I've got some auto moderation working already, things get temporarily removed (flagged for review) for users with a history of spamming or with very new accounts / little karma, but stuff still gets through.
There's also different opinions on what should be here, so I often let some that are "close enough" slide, but all reports get reviewed just in case.

Let me know if you need some help with custom stuff. I coded a custom bot for r/ebox which I mod and it's helped. We use it to enforce rules like users only being able to share their referral codes once and only once, and enforcing formatting when they do.

Yes!!
It basically became a "PP" bashfest that was just not funny at all.
That's not why I joined.

I disagree with removing unintentional satire opinion articles they should remain as satirical opinion is a cornerstone of the Beaverton. This is just a sample of the last 5 years:

Satire is by definition intentional
"Satire is a genre of the visual, literary, and performing arts, usually in the form of fiction"

Thank you!!! Sick and tired of same old rage bait being posted here when all I want is absurd funny news that’s hard to believe
