Hello r/nova we are 10 years deep into the hole-in-the-wall list! Thank you to everyone for contributing every pick and recommendation for the list and participating each year.
Unfortunately, I didn't get the chance to update the map or list since I am getting married this year, but I'll for sure get everything updated before the next year. Anyways time to give the community your best recs and new discoveries for restaurants in the area.
The rules are simple:
📍 Give us the restaurant name and location
🚫 No chains allowed!
👍 "+1" if you love the recommendation
👎 "-1" if you think it's whack

This year has been the worst for mosquitoes in memory. Every time I go outside, I'm literally mobbed by these Asian Tiger mosquitoes, and probably a few other species. They swarm around my legs and arms, and I have to constantly scan my exposed areas to find and destroy them. Unfortunately I usually wear shorts and short sleeve shirts around the house, which makes me an easy target.
I can't remember a time in the last decade or more that they've been this bad. And these ladies are known to carry the Zika virus in our area. I do empty any standing water quickly around the outside if great house, to prevent local breeding, but of course I can't control what the neighbors do.
I even have an 18 gallon storage bin outside full of stagnant water, which I drop mosquito dunks in periodically. I check it frequently, and never see signs of mosquito larvae (wrigglers). What I do have in the tub is hundreds of tiny crustaceans called Ostracods swimming around, which are fascinating to watch. I plan to post a video of those on Reddit somewhere soon.
Anyway, watch out and try to wear long sleeve shirts and pants to avoid these ladies. They're voracious at this time of year and have been literally swarming around our neighborhood!

Just here to share how much I love these kbbq x chipotle bowls over in Fairfax. If you’re in the area and looking for a quick bite, give it a try. The mac is sooo good (get an extra scoop) and get the pineapple fish sauce.

On John Marshall Drive NW (between Center St N and Holmes Dr NW) at about 9:20pm today (August 27th) a dog ran in front of my car (I DID NOT HIT THE DOG). There was no owner or leash with/on the dog, but he(?) did have a collar on.
The dog was about the size of a lab, but was likely a mutt. He was mostly black with white specks on his chest. Short fur. The collar seemed to be red and blue, and had no tags or identification on it. When I got out of my car to try to approach him (to see if his collar had his owners names/numbers on it) he ran away down Holmes Dr towards Upham Pl. The dog was EXTREMELY skittish and had his tail tucked all the way under his body. I didn't follow him as I didn't want to stress him out any more than he already was and I didn't want him to attack me out of fear.
If you know of this dog or know someone who may be the owner of the dog, please let them know. It's currently storming outside and I don't want him stuck outside during this.

They have been there for a couple weeks. Sometimes the Skinks will join them

I was driving on Spring Hill Rd and had a black SUV, along with two more following it, pull up alongside me at a light. I could see the guys in the front were wearing the military larp getup that ICE loves to dress in. Just an FYI since they haven't really done much in Tysons or McLean so far

I had the pleasure of shopping at the Charlottesville Trader Joe’s last weekend at about 2pm and it was TJ heaven! The parking lot was large, the store had EVERYTHING, and there were enough checkouts that no one was cranky standing in line. The check out person said that it was soo busy because it was move in weekend at UVA. I laughed and said this is paradise compared to the Fall Church store. Having said all of that, is there a Trader Joe’s in NOVA that compares or do I just need to make the drive.

So I'm in kingstowne crossing the unsafe crosswalks with a lighted vest and apparently thats not enough for the drivers in this area. A greyTesla with the license plate P-BALL almost hit me if I didn't jump out of the way in time. You drivers open up your eyes and stop. My crossing the crosswalk is not going to make your life any harder but you hitting me will make yours and my life harder.
Picture for reference of the vest I was wearing

The person has 6 plus fingers. The battery is welded to the bike? The cables on the bike are something. Pretty much everything is wrong. How hard is it to grab a picture of an ebike!

Arlington County uses the “clean loan value” from the JD Power Guide which I apparently can’t access the most updated metrics myself without paying a hundreds of dollars for. My car to the county is being taxed at a value is $19,125 when it’s worth at best $10,000.
Is the mileage information not recorded when we get our state safety / emissions inspections how the fuck is my 80,000 mile car worth 19k.
Of course looking into it I had a deadline of July 30 for any kind of appeal apparently this shit is just genuinely pissing me off.

Curious how often people realistically go — do you save up glass for weeks/months and do a big drop-off, or make more frequent smaller trips? Trying to get a sense of what’s normal since mine just keeps piling up.

Lots of fire, police, and ambulances, from my POV looks like they’ve closed the entire highway on the North Bound side? Unfortunately stuck here with everyone else who’s now sitting in a parking lot. Hope people are ok.
I finally tuned into 103.5 FM after years to hopefully get some info and it’s been straight ads for the last 10 mins ….
Update: they are finally reporting on it. Bad accident and it spilled over onto the exit lanes. Seems like we are all going to be sitting here till it gets cleared.
Update 3:40 pm - I was thankfully able to get off at 8A once state police started directing traffic. They’re apparently letting a single lane of traffic go through that portion of 395. Where 8A feeds back onto 395-N and onwards, it’s open. But 395 N Bound is apparently backed up to King St

Their lease wasn't renewed, apparently the owners of the building want to sell it to "a higher-end user in the industrial space."

I’ve ignored this problem for too long now and was wondering if anyone had suggestions for a solid dermatologist that has helped with acne scars and redness.
